Ok! Here is the revised version of the Viper MKVII. Complete with landing gears and NUKES!! By the way - I am open to opinions of how I might do this better! Also, I created a new page - wasn't sure if it kosher to create a new page for an update, or if I should've just updated the previous page.
About this creation
I went back and forth so many times trying to achieve that 'organic appearance' that is the signature of the mkV. I am still not happy with the engine housing, but it'll do for now.
Here is the view of the belly shoing the nukes ready to take out a basestar as well as the panels for the retractable landing gears. It was a huge challenge getting the landing gears to fit with an authentic appearance, in addition to having operational bay doors.
Overall I am pretty happy with the dimensions and scale... not sure if it is truly 'minifig scale', but the proportions seem right.
Another overall view.
Another view of the bottom - not sure where I've seen it, but I really liked the look of using gears for the missile fins.
I am still looking at the cockpit - I'd like to try to re-arrange it so that the joystick is on the side, which I think I read somewhere is how the Mk VII is. I think the MkII has the joystick centered, like in the original series.
Here is the view of the rear landing gears - what a PAIN! I felt one of the most important things is to get the landing gears to look authentic. That meant the front skid angles forward about 15 degrees, and the rear skids splayed out diagonally. Add trying to make movable bay doors, and it was quite the puzzle. I am pretty happy how it turned out...
I HATE LDD Backgrounds...wish they just had a neutral background. Anyway, here is a view from the front showing the landing gears fully extended.
Another view showing more of the bay doors.
Better bottom view of the landing skids.
