After I'd made my last room model (Computer Programmer's Office), someone said that I should build a kitchen as my next model. So, I decided to try my hand at creating a family kitchen/dining room. I have now finished the model and here it is! There is a lot going on in this particular model.
There is a microwave, dishwasher, stove, range-hood, wine glasses, sink -with tap, fridge, pantry (or larder), table, chairs, phone, the list goes on! The whole model took around 2 - 2 1/2 hours to complete (spread over 2 days). The pantry (larder) and partition wall section was added on afterwards and isn't connected (really) to the main model (as you can see from the second photo). If you want to put a plate in the dishwasher, all you need to do is slide it through the little slit at the top of the dishwasher door. This model continues on the black and white colour scheme that was introduced in the previous models that I created.
Like my other models, I grabbed some "family" minifigures and built the model around them -by asking these sorts of questions: "What would they [the minifigures] have in their kitchen/dining room?", and that's how I built the model basically.
As you can see in the photos, there is no oven -this is because I didn't have enough room for one and also they [the minifigures] already have a stove to cook things on. I was going to make the now dishwasher an oven, but I thought it would look better as a dishwasher. The microwave is situated on the left side of the bench -you can't actually put anything in it because it is just a 1x2 brick and a 1x2 tile stuck together.
Now, let's have a look at the other photos...
Photo 1 (main): The model in its entirety (including the pantry extension).
Photo 2: The pantry extension as a separate unit.
Photo 3: Lady cooking on the stove (with the range-hood)
Photo 4: Close-up of the table and cooking area
Photo 5: The cooking area (kitchen) without any minifigures in it (so you can see all the different bits easily
What do you think of this model and what I should build next in my 'room' series? A master bedroom, a bathroom, a laundry? Tell me in the comments! :D
