Alliance Navy Legion Class Amphibious Assault Ship
Alliance Navyís latest landing craft: the Legion class amphibious assault ship.
About this creation
This is the Legion class Siege amphibious assault ship. This ship features a dual set main drive system that means the ship has no true front. There is no forward and reverse. That, combined with the skid rails on one end, gives it the ability to beach itself, roll off dozens of tanks, then head back out to sea and continue helicopter sorties and other carrier aircraft strikes. It has a large ramp on one end with the skid rails and a smaller one on the other end. It also has a folding boat launch used for deploying PT boats, landing craft, and hovercrafts.

A general overview of the ship.

These are the bow guns. These guns are the same size, in feet, as on the Legacy carrier. That should give an idea of scale. from left to right: 5Ē single cannon turret, 2 .50 cal AA machine guns, 1 20mm chaingun AA battery, 2 .50 cal machine guns.

The large ramp with skid rails. It can unload a column of Hammer tanks two wide at a time.

The boat launch dock. I left one of the panels raised just to show that it closes quite flush. In reality, those panels would be a single piece. You can also see the main tower/bridge well from here. Said tower has a dual SAM launcher on top of it capable of firing off 16 SAMs before needing a manual reload.

Rear ramp. I havenít figured out a specific scenario where this is advantageous but itís better to have options, right?

This is the flight deck birdís eye. Note it is 4 studs wide. It is the same width in feet as the Legacy carrier. This ship is a bit less than half the size of the Legacy.

A good last shot just to appreciate the ship as a whole.

I agree, the 20mms are a bit bigger than I think they should be. The weapons are the size they are to create an illusion of scale. The stated calibers are the same as on the Legacy carrier but the sizes are different. All the detailing is there to help create the illusion taht this is a little less than half the size of the Legacy scale-wise.

It's a good looking ship, but all the weapons are REALLY big compared to their states calibers. For example, the huge guns you put on the ship are only 127 mm, aka the same size as a tank cannon, yet it appear to be easily 3-5 times larger. Also, .50 caliber machine guns are so small that we shouldn't be able to see them at all (and they are also inadequate for AA agianst any serious target). Besides this nitpicking, great job!

OOPS! See all those studs around the weapons systems? Those are all supposed to be covered in tiles. I will update the LDD file to refect the correction to my oversight.
