Aww yeah, here it is, my favorite creation to date... a life-size wearable Hero Factory based Bane Mask!
About this creation
This is simultaneously my entry to the Ultimate Tournamocoff round 2 against Jeremy S... good luck! Now this wasn't made expressly for the Ultimate Tournamocoff, but it coincided with it, so I finished it for posting with the intention of meeting the requirements of the competition. Hopefully that's okay.
Anyway, this was clearly inspired by NorbyZero, and his awesome HF masks. Although, I didn't look at a single one while I was building this :3
One thing I noticed about his masks is that he has to clip them on to his head. I made mine adjustable, which to my knowledge has not been done before, for extreme comfort!
I'll be wearing this to Brickfair NH and Brickfair VA, so come to those if you wanna see me! Everyone there is gonna love it :3
Note that the lower mouth area can flip down, so I can sustain myself with anything that will fit through (yeah, that's pretty much just pretzel rods XD)
Here's the mechanism that allows it to be adjustable, using the bionicle pistons in a linear fashion. The 16 tooth gears make sure both sides close up evenly, and the top is attached so it tightens with the mask as well. There are connectors sticking out so that I can easily close it behind me. I hope that this design catches on, or gets improved upon (I'm sure to find a better solution next time!) whenever anyone else makes lego masks. And trust me, making masks is fun!
I'd also like to note that as uncomfortable as this looks, the only uncomfortable part about it is where it goes over my ear, and that's mainly because of the armor clipped on there, which is certainly not necessary.
Yay for terrible selfies! I'm a bit too fuzzy to look much like Bane XD
Here's an inside shot for those of you that want to make it. It's not too parts-intensive, if you have enough silver from the Metru era of sets, and are keeping up to date on Hero Factory! (I still need some more plates to cover up some areas, I hope to get those parts at BF NH)
Here you can also see the only two balljoints in the moc, which are the old style. They keep popping apart unfortunately, because that's an area of stress, so I need to find another solution there. If the V2 has this, I'll just use glue.
So I'm working on an LDD model of this, shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org to get the file when I'm finished! I can't guarantee that it will fit your head, since I have a rather large head, but whatevs :P
I also plan to make a V2 of this, that's more accurate (I want to use more tubes), sturdier (HF joints move, and some areas I don't want that), and more aesthetically pleasing. (I really gotta cover up the mouth area, I have unfortunately big lips!) Hopefully I can get time to do that before Brickfair VA.
Don't forget to rate and comment, I want this to be my most popular moc :3
And now to judge your entry for the Ultimate Tournamocoff. RULES: Unfortunately, there was a piece that you used that was banned from the rules. I don't really know what it's called but it's flat, and has 3 holes. Has 2 + holes on the edges and a circle hole in the middle. I can see it on the sides of your moc. 5/10. MOC: Now holy crap, this is how you make a reference from another movie. I haven't really watched the movie where you got this from (or whatever the source is). This is really good and you have major details to support it which give you MAJOR points it nearly mimic the mask you're trying to make. Just maybe the back could have used some work, but otherwise very impressive. 9.8/10 OVERALL: 14.8/20 (I apologize, but this score was made because you used a banned piece. Better hope your opponent doesn't show up for the contest).
Quoting Dragonax lord of all things black and creepy
If you put some Sharpie marker (the thick-tip kind) on the balljoints, pins, and clips, it stiffens them up nicely. I learned this trick from BioRockDude, it works very well :D
Haha, I don't care too much about being purist, but sharpie is just stopping too low for me XD I have other ways.
