About this creation
Heyo! Max is back with a new creation for the first time in a while, and he's for a contest.

Bertolt is my entry for the Elemental Bionicle Contest preliminaries.

Alrighty then.

Topping off at 10.6 cm, Bertolt is a bit of an oddity, being of the C-matoran clan and not having naturally black armor. This is due to a "defect" of sorts in his genesis:
Instead of the standard Carbon Fiber--esque matte black, Bert is clad in greyish graphite. Rather, he IS greyish graphite, with a few small exceptions (his head and some of his internal framework, namely).

This odd power has granted him a few strengths and weaknesses on the kohlii field. For one thing, Bert is already extremely well built, possessing dramatic speed and agility,
complimented by the fact that he can essentially rub himself on the surface he's touching in order to slide right off it and get back on his feet.
However, Bert's quality is also one of his greatest disadvantages: if he gets hit by the ball, it tends to knock his limbs off.

Thankfully, Bert's the resourceful type. This "disadvantage" actually allows him to sacrifice his limbs in full-power thrusts and blocks that would cause serious injury to any other matoran. Bert simply twists his arms back on and he's up in seconds.

His build also allows him to take advantage of his hilariously flexible joints to effectively make him a third taller than his normal height, creating an imposing silhouette (by matoran standards, at least)
that has granted him many nicknames by his competitors. Some of these are "Colossal", "Kyojin", and in reference to his long arms, "Monkey trouble".
(if you get the reference, You're a cool cat and I'll love you forever.)

In regards to Bert's equipment, when playing defense he grafted his old carbon-fiber sheild into two wrist-mounted guard plates.
They allow for greater mobility, but cover significantly less surface area, causing Bert to play with what's been called the most aggressive defense in the league.

The plates are removed when on offense to help him move more quickly, although they are compatible with a standard kolhii stick for combat out of the arena.
They've definitely saved his hide in more than a few grudge "matches".

Despite his bulky size, Bert can actually run very fast, and given the nature of his armored legs, is very capable of landing killer blows on the ball by fortifying his stance.

His armor also picks up residual graphite from wherever he walks, so his body has more or less "regenerative" properties.

Bert can be a bit shy outside of the arena. His stature and looks have always granted him few friends, and his relative isolation has made him a bit cold on the world.
The way Bert tends to isolate himself has lead several to believe that he has ulterior motive, although there's no reason to. Bert's may be secretive, but he's certainly not the plotting type.

Anyways, that's been Bertolt.
Best of luck to everybody in the contest, have fun and whatnot.

This was my original prototype for my entry. Let's call him "Reiner". (get it now?)
Reiner originally didn't have the back tentacles, but he's big enough to be called a toa, and I figure why shouldn't a toa of carbon have organic matter coming out of every orifice?
anyways, that's that. My original concept was to have a matoran of graphite and a matoran of uncut diamond, (grey and white) to illustrate the wide range of forms carbon can take.
I was also going to have the brothers take positions unfitting for them, the diamond brother being the bulky, slow offense and the graphite brother being the quick, but easily knocked out defender.

I suppose that just didn't happen anyways, I've got to get out of this Coffee bean. I've overstayed my welcome, so to speak. See you all later.
