Prologue: The Terror Within
About this creation
The Prologue to my new storyline: The Terror Within.

I must say, I like this little vignette. The base is almost exactly the same as my last model, but it has a few modifications.

The Terror Within

Thael crept forward in the mist, struggling to see in the black of night. He brushed his tangled, dark hair out of his eyes. Beside him, he saw his companion, Alitah, shiver. Thael sighed, and once again squinted to see into the night. At last, he saw something before him. It was a dark shape, but as he got closer, he could tell what it was. It was a black gate, creaking in the breeze. Thael skimmed his other surroundings, noting that there was a long, black fence, crooked and broken from age. He carefully opened the gate, and slowly moved into the area behind the fence. He turned to Alitah.

"This is it!" he hissed. "This is the graveyard Faroth told us to meet him in!"

"Are you sure?" Alitah looked at him skeptically.

"Positive," he replied. "What other cemeteries have we seen in the past hour of searching?"

"Well, I don't like this, Thael. Not at all."

"Neither do I, but Faroth told us that this was urgent."

Thael turned around to face the graveyard once again, looking for a sign of the old man who had abruptly visited his tribe and said he needed two warriors to help him. Thael and Alitah had volunteered; both were cunning and fierce fighters, as well as adventurous. Now, neither of them felt cunning, or adventurous.

"Faroth?" Thael called softly into the darkness, hoping for a sign of life.

There was no reply. Thael cursed under his breath.

"Where is he?" Alitah breathed.

"Well, wherever he is, it's not here." Thael glared pointlessly in the night.

"What do we do now?" Alitah inquired.

"Well, I suppose we wait." Thael groaned.

Thael was known throughout Fathore, his tribe, for impatience. He leaned against the old fence, cobwebs brushing his back. He looked over at Alitah, who was looking through the mist in vain search of Faroth. Suddenly, she leaped back. Thael jerked forward, startled.

"What is it?" he whispered to her.

"Two men come this way! Neither looked like Faroth, from a distance," she hissed back.

Thael cursed again, and drew his sword. Alitah unsheathed her own blade, scowling into the night. Thael looked for the men, and his eyes came across two large silhouettes.

"They're huge..." Alitah muttered.

Thael silently agreed. He kept his eyes on the shadows. As they grew clearer, he saw that one was golding a spear and shield, and the smaller one was gripping a sword. He grimaced. This was going to be tougher than he thought. The smaller man, who had to stand at at least 6 feet, opened his mouth and bellowed at the Fathorians.

"You two! Clear off. We're here for a private call!"

Could Faroth have sent them, too? Thael wondered. Probably not. He shouted back,

"If you're here for something as important as us, then I'm a barbarian."

"Why you -" The man cut himself off, and charged at Thael.

"Stop! No, you idiot!" The other man shouted, waving his spear in the air. "That's not what we're here for!"

"Yes, your here for an urgent meeting, aren't you? Or is it that important? Oh, well. If I forget, it can't be." Thael yelled at the man with the spear, while at the same time parrying the other man's blows.

The man with the shield and spear flushed crimson, and shouted a battle cry. He ran at Thael with surprising speed. Thael smirked and shouldered the other man aside. His sword clashed against the spear. The man drove his shield into Thael's stomach. The Fathorian doubled over. He felt the end of the spear slam into his skull. His vision blurred, tinged with red. He swung his sword wildly, hoping to hit his mark. The bigger man danced out of the way of the whirling blade, and kicked his enemy into the mud. Thael groaned. In the corner of his vision, he saw that Alitah has disarmed her opponent and had her blade to his neck. Thael smiled at the valiant sight, and swung his sword again, this time being to quick for the other man. His blade met the man's breastplate, sending him sprawling in the dirt with a cry.

Thael leaped up, but the man's thick boot met his chest.

Thael crashed into the gravestone behind him, and it shattered, sending dust through the air. Alitah turned to see her comrade crash to the ground. Her target slowly struggled to stand. She paid no attention to him. She raced at the larger man, blade raised.

Suddenly, there was a large crack, as if lightning had struck the cemetary. Everybody was thrown back. Faroth stood where, an instant ago, Alitaah had been charging at the spear-holder.

"Stop! You fools! You were meant to work together, not to kill each other!" Faroth snarled, spear raised. "If you don't work together to help me, I'll kill you myself! I thought you were smarter than to attack them, Aerith!"

Thael realized that he was speaking to the man with the spear.

"And you, Thael, as well as Alitah, why did you fight? Why didn't you reason with them? Idiots!"

Thael looked at his boots, cowed.

"And you. You were the greatest fool, today, Philearin."

Alitah's target shrank back. Faroth continued.

"Now, we must work together. Before you met as enemies, now you meet as allies. You have more dangers to worry about than each other, if I'm correct..."

There you have it! Hope you like it! I did base Thael and Alitah off some of Luke Watkin's characters.

God bless!

Great story so far but a little suggestion is to have more good action pictures with less words underneath. Although it was well written it did get a bit boring at points. Hope I didn't offend and I can't wait to see what's next!
