Juni's custom Liberty BDR-337 Defender Heavy Fighter from the game Freelancer
About this creation
Hey, I'm back. Well, OK, not really; just for this one MOC.
So yeah, a new Freelancer-related MOC that isn't a remake of something I slapped together as a tween-ager. I've kinda wanted to build a Defender in Lego ever since I started making Freelancer stuff but I didn't think there was any way to accurately reproduce the wings. Guess I was wrong.
Infocard information from the game:
"'The best of the best', this heavily outfitted rig represents the pinnacle of Liberty's technological advances and design savoir faire. With its elevated armor and power rating as standard and the additional mount for firepower, it's no wonder that this ship is the number one choice of the Liberty Armed Forces."
Gun/Turret Mounts: 5/1
Cargo Space: 30
Max Batteries/NanoBots: 14
Optimal Weapon Class: 2
Max. Weapon Class: 4
Additional Equipment: M, CM, CD / T
And I figured, if I'm going to go ahead and make a Defender, I may as well make Juni's custom variant - which differs from the bog-standard ship the player can buy by having a vertical fin similar to the Anubis's. This guy made a pretty good mini version of the standard model.
Comments on pictures that I have nothing useful to say about will be filled by random quotes from the game.
The wings on this thing may be the most fragile things I've ever built. Seriously, I'm scared to breathe on them. They don't even support their own weight - I had to make a rather ugly support system on the underside for them. Definitely not swooshable.
"TRENT, WE HAVE TO GO FASTER"
"I'd love to stand here jawin' with you all day, Bretonian, but I really only talk to racers."
"I'm trying to keep a low profile."
"Well, I've gotta admit, this is low."
"Edison...what an unusual name."
Nope, I didn't have to cannibalize my Anubis for the cockpit. Ain't Bricklink wonderful?
Also, this was the first time I was actually happy about the old gray/bley split - in-game, the Anubis has a dull, almost beige-ish gray color, while the Defender has a silvery blue-gray color.
"He wasn't smart enough to be a terrorist, let alone lead them."
Quoting steph me
actually it's not the defender but the upper version , the enforcer !!
Enforcer? You must be referring to a mod. I know there's a few that make it a VHF and give it its own name (I played one once that called it the Guardian) but in the base game it's just a variant of the Defender.
love ur work
actually it's not the defender but the upper version , the enforcer !! but it's a detail !!
hope u will share some intructions for building this fantastic ship!!
i would love to see ur version of the eagle the very eavy fighter from the cilvilians.
thanks for ur work
Woohooo! Yesterday I tought about what do build when my Titan is done. (It will be, I´m just waiting for a last BL order to arrive!) Wanted to try a Defender, but now that you´ve come up with a PERFECT version of Juni´s ship, I´ll have to think about something else. The wings are so dang cool, although I was afraid to look at them. Nice to see you back in action! ~Cheers
Wonderful wings. At first glance they look so solid but then you realise how they're built so as to get the angles and stripes in the right places and how delicate they are, like you say. It must have been interesting to puzzle this out! Great technique to get the all glass bubble cockpit too.
