R.O. Round 1: Liar!
Reading Olympics Round One, Category 3.
About this creation
This is an entry for the Reading Olympics contest. I am entering in Category 3: 1800-1950 Sci-fi- If it falls between these years and is sci-fi Go for it. Time Machine or War of Worlds time period! The story I am selecting is Isaac Asimov's story "Liar!", written in 1941. Here's the link to a description.

This Moc shows the epic climax of the story of a telepathic robot, built by U.S. Robots and Mechanical Men. RB-34 (nicknamed Herbie) gained this ability through an error in his assembly. Naturally, the top roboticists in U.S. Robots seek to figure out this telepathic ability by finding out what went wrong on the assembly line. But Susan Calvin, the company's robopsychologist, eventually discovers the downside of working with a telepathic robot: it can see your thoughts.

She and her co-workers, Alfred Lanning and Peter Bogert, are distracted by what Herbie tells them others are thinking of them. Bogert is led to believe that he will soon be head of his department, and Susan is told that the man she has a crush on loves her.

When these are revealed as lies, and Herbie is confronted by all three, Susan realizes the reason for deception: Herbie, according to his programming, wishes to avoid harming humans. She traps him in the paradox of harming them through his lies, and harming them through telling the truth. Quickly, Herbie slips into a state of insanity.

Thanks for looking! Please check out the Reading Olympics!

-This short story was the first time the term "robotics" was mentioned in a publication.
-The Moc was built to show Herbie's perspective, specifically that of insanity.
-Herbie's design was based off of a Moc built by Shannon Young.

Very nice stuff, the presentation and build are both simple yet very creative. Nice choice of a story, too. A solid 3.

Trippy! Nice placement of colours, though a simple technique. I'm on the fence here, but I'll round up and give you 3 points.
