As soon as I saw the categories, I knew I had to make one of my signature minidoll builds. I haven't done much animal building/sculpting in the past, so having to build a horse and then giving it a torso on the front half was a pretty fun challenge.
It's not a clever take on the category, purely literal. So I'm crossing my fingers that I don't lose points for originality, or lack thereof.
In hindsight, making the rock the same color as the horse probably wasn't the best idea.
One of my favorite parts of this build is probably the helmet, which is made of entirely stock chromed Lego parts. The plume on the helmet was used by both the Greeks, and the Romans in their respective time periods. So I figured, why not add it for a bit of flair?
Getting the right left leg to be cocked back, and curved to fit the rock was actually quite a challenge. The stability in my first few iterations was really off, so that part took a good couple hours to build and rebuild until I was happy with it.
The gray bit on the shoulder of the centaur is supposed to represent a piece of armor. A slight impracticality since he IS bare-chested. XD
Good stuff. I like the overall composition, and the rockwork's sublime. I think the tree could do with a bit more sculpting to make it more rounded throughout, though it looks good in the main photo. The centaur's very well done, barring the rear which seems excessively blocky. All done and said, a very convincing entry.
Nothing wrong with literal interpretations when they are as beautifuly and elegantly done as this. Lovely form and sculpting. I especially like the side view. I really like that its the same colour as the base because then the helmet and plume just go zing! It wouldn't do that so much if there were too many colours in the sculpture. Well done, beautiful piece of art. Its deep square eyes are really enchanting.
It seems that you and I are building the same creation.... Oh well, fantastic moc! The centaur is fantastic! I love the plume! My only suggestion is what you said, if you changed the landscape to something else besides rockwork, it would look better with the DBG centaur's body. Other than that, fantastic work here! Best of luck in the MocOlympics mate!
