Potential energy in a wound up rubber band just waiting to be released!
About this creation
My Tank Boomer is simply a LEGO version of a toy made by a past student of mine.
When I worked as a teacher, there was only one year that I ever taught 8 graders! And then, it was only one class of Physical Science at a private school. That year I had the students do a small home project where they each made an historical motion toy of some sort. The best toy was made by a student using an old wooden spool of thread, a rubberband, 2 small dowels, a nail, and a piece of soap as a lubricant!
The Tank Boomer In Action…
For those of you not able to view the video below here, I give you the FLICKR LINK!
Don't forget to turn on the sound to enjoy the background music!
I chose to Model the Tank Boomer’s action with my Decisive Action 2nd Tank build, because although it is a better designed tank than my first, it never was able to surpass my first in smiley number! Go Figure!

Thank you Topsey. Your creations are the most unique and fun. You are still the teacher. I learn a lot from you.
Thanks Cheryl. Earlier today I added you as a favorite. I didn't realize that I hadn't. But even so, I think I have managed to view/comment on all your own unique mocs! :)

I remember making these things, my friend taught me when I was about 9-10? The smiley thing on MOCpages is pretty arbitrary I've found. Some of my MOCS, have been hit by an early spate of negative scores, which kept them off the front page. I think the inferred nudity on my Virgo build riled a few innocents as it faced a wave of below 4 scores. Anyway, rambling now. Congrats on making it to the MO round 2.
I know that some mocs seem to get hit with multiple low scores for many other reasons too, like teens trying to favor a friend’s moc that might be up at the same time as someone else’s. Several people have complained about it in the pages Help thread. I’m sure the pages uses some kind of algorithm noting initial post time and number of viewers that do not score it, as well as the obvious, number of viewers that score it low, as factors. So I’m guessing the algorithm must involve the summation of several terms, such as number of views in some given time period and number of high scored views per some given time period, etc, etc.? You would think that some bright programmer could have a factor or conditional statement that would negate an onslaught of low scores?

If Hitler had this voodoo technology, he might have won. ;D Too fun!
Thanks... and your comment made me think about when synthetic rubber actually became a viable production material. Now, I'm going to have to go research that! Always something new to learn or refresh one's memory, that's what I also like about this hobby! :)

Deadly! That soap really does the trick, eh?!?
Yup, and I recall the kid even tried to stay historically accurate by using a castile(olive oil based) soap instead of a modern deodorant or extra moisture type! :)

This is fun and reminds me of similar thing that we used to make as kids by using old cotton reels. Endless fun, as there are no batteries required :)
Yes, and it's simplicity is why it was one of the toys that was made that made it a favorite. :)
