On September 17th, at approximately 1330 hours, Engines 54 and 57, Tower 51 with Aerial Tower 5 and the 5th Battalion were dispatched to a structure fire at 809 E 12th St. Upon Engine 54's arrival, they found a 2-story taxpayer with heavy smoke from the second floor. Battalion 5 arrived and requested the Working Fire response, adding Engine 31 and Battalion 3 as RIT, and Squad 9.
In the first picture Engine 57's captain is talking with the occupant. The occupant relayed that everyone was out and last he saw the fire appeared to be in the rear, but was unable to close the door because of the smoke. Meanwhile the engineer is coming around to make the hydrant connection.

Engineer pulling 5 inch out of the bed. The hydrant was essentially across the street from 805 East 12th St. With the Captain's instructions, 54s stopped short of the fire building to make the hydrant and give Tower 51 the front as they were coming from the east.
Engine 54's Captain and FF masking up to make entry. The apartment door was closed when capt did his recon and 360 while FF Smith was pulling the preconnect.

Tower 51's officer and 1 FF heading up to conduct a primary search and assist 54s. While Engine 57's FF pulls the second preconnect from 54s to take into the exposure. The fire was in the C/D corner of the second floor, causing a concern for possible extension.
The truck chauffeur starts setting up the truck to go to the roof while the OVM is laddering the second floor.
Jacks are just about set, the OVM has the saws running and tools assembled.
