Space Tractor (General Purpose) My entry for David x2's, I'm guessing, annual contest.
About this creation
This tots up to 100 pieces on the dot but to give the space fella a set of bagpipes I could change two 1X12 bits to one 2x12 with little compromise, I just couldn't find one.
The idea of this vehicle is to just do stuff, boring run-o-the-mill stuff, like drilling holes, pulling stuff, carrying stuff, moving stuff etc but to do it on the surfaces of nondescript gravel/loose scree covered, insalubrious atmospheric planets.
Most of the important pieces were available in the 80s, the wheels maybe not, early 90s possibly, from a space police vehicle. Regardless I didn't want to create something overly classic, I wanted to use the pieces in a way that would have blown my fragile youthful mind had I seen such a set. It looks suitably robust and it wouldn't be too much of an imagination stretch to see how the tractor, especially the cockpit (my favourite bit)could be adapted for many other purposes.

The tractor is designed to run at a variety of cab positions, this is the high position.

The cockpit door opens and seals tight allowing comfortable use in less hospitable atmospheres.

A rear view. The weighting of the vehicle is slightly biased to the front wheels, increasing maneuverability

The cockpit can raise into a vertical position, allowing the user a better angle for drilling, planting or ploughing. The wheels are independently powered by electric motors and allow the tractor a very small turning circle. A back up high octane engine is behind the grill immediately to the rear of the cab, the black battery power pack is opposite.

It's easier to scan the skies when you're looking right up at them.

You can just set the cab to tilt, there is probably a reason for doing so, I just haven't thought of it.

The front is adorned with various handles, hooks and lights, which will become useful at some stage of vehicle ownership.

The cab can get itself into a more aerodynamic lowered position, which is great for traversing the occasional concreted slab top.

The orange and black uniform is allocated to the Terraforming Department, rather fetching it looks too.

The cab contains an out of sight steering wheel and a just visible computer monitor, immediately behind the driver.

A couple of gratuitous cab close up cab shots.

The laser drill tool, which after minor recalibration becomes the laser plough tool, it can also be used as a short range tractor beam and if you really want to stretch your imagination, a power jet spray and a seed drill.

Option B: Big wheeled Judge Dredd stylee bike.

Option C: Quad engined flying craft, capable of reaching the outer reaches of any atmosphere (probably)

The bits, count them they're all there, well they were.

I love the tractor best, it inspires me a lot, the concept of multi purpose with the tilting of the body has me thinking about many possibilities, I agree that the cockpit is fab!

Orange and blue are perfect partners. I love the low hung look and the pure trans blue cockpit. The rotation of the cockpit is a nice feature too. 8 The alternatives are very well realized and importantly show two completely different building ideas. The super cycle is my favourite. 8 Good solid play value, and the rotating capacity could add a bit of extra exploration time. 7 I like the use of the old school trans pieces with simple technic idea. A good alternative take on CS. 7

I like highly distinctive shape of this vehicle it reminds me of those big fire trucks at airports. This is also an impressively large MOC for less than 100 pieces. I like the subtle bits of asymmetry in the design. I think that the orange/blue/black colour scheme looks great too. A very practical vehicle to trundle across rough planets. 7 A pair of contrasting alternatives, both with each other and the main build. The bike looks unstoppable, in that Judge Dredd style that you mention. It's great to see all four big wheels being used as engines on the flying machine. Both alternatives look fun and strong enough to be played with. 8 I love all of the various options for rolling this big truck across a carpet (or lunar surface). It took me a while to realise from the photos that the chassis works both ways up. The hinged roof is a neat bit of functionality. Although there is the drill type thing on the back, it would have been great if the vehicle had a hopper or grab or something to play with. Then again, you were up against that pesky 100 part limit. The build looks strong and stable. Well up to surviving the odd crash! 6 I like how the cabin tilts and hinges for no particular reason. Just the sort of functionality that you might have found in an old Lego set (Who decided where to put the wheels on 6926 ?). The slightly enigmatic role of the vehicle seems to be very CS too. A radar dish or some aerials might have boosted that CS feel but where to put them and keep the flipping function? 8 Total 29

Orange + trans blue = Awesomeness! That's a colour combo I might have to have a play with. Love the shaping of the tractor's cab too.

I am so glad I ventured to view this! You have some nifty designs here and the colors have the wow factor! I will be honest with you... your pic with the fig standing next to the vehicle's drill was THE pic to use for the Intro! I think that had you used that, you would have drawn more people to look and comment! Anyhoo, I'm glad I did! :)
