Late in 1967, the FIA changed the rules of sportscar racing. For 68 season, prototypes were limited to 3 liters. It meant the end of the game for the ferrari P range.
So, 2 330P4 were sent in US to compete in the new CanAm (Canada - America) chamionship. Basicaly, if your car had 4 wheels....it was allowed to compete.
The P4 engine were retooled to make 4200cm3, the roof removed, the front and rear parts of bodywork completeluy reworked.
The Rhodesian team Gunston of John Love raced this car in 1968 and 1969.
Here is a 1/8 rendition of this car, featuring:
- Shocks on four wheels
- Technic V12
- Nasty look of steroid roof-less 330 P4.
The same way the real cars, my 350P is a direct evolution/modification of my 330 P4 design. The main difference, beyond front and rear covers, remains in the rear ways that are 2 studs wider....in order to emphasize the "bestial" feeling.
The Beauty P4 became the Beast 350P.
Nowadays, only one of the two cars that had been previously modificated is still in "can-am" configuration.
Some purist may think this car is a kind of "crime de lèse majesté" towards the 330 P4 perfect shape...i may have thought this way before but now i find it very beautifull. It's part of History now.
