Category: Riddles in the Dark (Gollum's Riddles) - 1. What has roots as nobody sees, is taller than trees, up, up it goes, and yet never grow?
First, I'd like to thank Michael, Mark, Max, Ian, Paul, Blake, and Christopher for putting this great competition on!
Second first (see what I did there?), I think I should share my Lord of the Rings "conversion story."
When the LOR movies came out, I was old enough to understand the trailers and see that they were pretty cool movies, but I had something "far cooler" on my mind: Star Wars. I was one of the prequel kids. Episode I came out when I was three, and I just thought it was so cool (especially since it had this guy named Jar Jar in it). My neighbor friend's dad collected Star Wars merchandise, so we'd play for hours with his vintage action figures and some of the newer Episode I toys. That said, you probably can see why I'd totally just block out the LOR since they either came out while I was excitedly anticipating Episode II, or just going crazy after it came out. I was also a little ticked off by LOR at the time because everyone thought my sister looked like Arwen. "OH MY GOSH!! You look exactly like Arwen! This is insane! I almost want to ask you for your autograph. Oh, is that your little brother? Awwwwww...."
I couldn't stand it.
Now skip forward to 2 weeks ago. I was at the library looking at DVDs (you can rent a DVD for a week for 2 bucks! That definitely beats the video store or Red Box!). I saw the first LOR on the shelf and decided that it was about time to watch it. So we (my Mom and I. We're the movie people in the family) rented it, and at the end I thought: "I can't believe it took me like 12 years to finally see this!" So when we took back the first one we rented the second one. The day after we finished watching the second one, my Mom was flipping through TV channels and lo and behold, guess what was on? Return of the King! Now if that isn't crazy enough, my Mom told my aunt about how we had just seen the LOR Trilogy for the first time and my aunt said that she was just about to donate all 3 movies to Goodwill, but then she was like: "Do you want them instead?"
So that's the end of my story. Now let's get on to the build!! :D
When I joined the contest probably a little over half of the way through this round, I chose to build something for the "mountain" sub-category since I didn't see very many creations for it. I thought that Mount Doom fit the category, and it would also be kinda cool to start with the "end." So here it is!
I know exactly how that is. I had a friend who hated Star Wars. He said "Lord of the rings is so much better!" Naturally, my dislike of LOTR shot up, so when I finally read the hobbit, and LOTR I could not believe what I had missed. Fortunately I am in time for the Hobbit movies.
That function! :O
So this is the third or fourth timeI've added you as a favorite builder when I saw something awesome of yours (all your mocs. ;) ) and Mocpages decided you weren't good enough to be on my list. Here's hoping that it never happens again! :D
Though I enjoy pressing the "Add to my Favorite builders" Button for you. ;)
Really cool sweet awesome build, Best of luck, and again; That function! :O
