My 5th MOCiversary Celebration!
It's my 5th MOCiversary!!! Here is a look back over the past 5 years of my being here. Please comment, rate and enjoy!
About this creation

Hi everyone! The real R.K. Blast here! Well, today marks the 5th anniversary of my being here on MOCpages! I joined on the 22nd January 2009 and haven’t looked back! Please now allow me to take you on a journey back through the past 5 years and take a look at some of my best (and worst) creations and also at how much I’ve improved since I joined.

So without further ado, let’s begin…

Firstly, here is a quick look at the V (Roman numeral for 5) which I created (with help from Iadsgb who was at my house at the time) specifically for this moc! On the left with have of course, my favourite mad duo, The Joker and Harley Quinn. On the right we have an updated version of my lovely girlfriend’s sig-fig and to her right, Iadsgb. And of course, front and centre is ME!!!

And now we move onto my timeline. (If you want to view any of the mocs featured in this look-back, just click the heading for it and it’ll take you to it.) This was my very first creation. It shows my first sig-fig and the other clone trooper types in the 609th legion. Despite just being some figures on a plate, as most first mocs are, my sig-fig has changed very little since then.

Just 2 days after I arrived on MOCpages (and after uploading quite a few badly-made custom figures) and fuelled by all of the other Clone Wars series that were around at the time, I decided to start my own, telling the story of the 609th legion.

My DTTB, Droid Track Transport Bike, was my most popular creation for quite a while. It was uploaded on the 3rd of February and to this day has 16 likes…. I have no idea why. But hey ho! Not complaining!

On the 15th of February 2009, my Clone Wars 609th series continued into the Dark Times! Following Blast and his legion into the era of change in the Star Wars universe.

On the 10th of March, less than a month after the start of the previous series (wow… I really rushed things back then!), my Legend Of The 609th: Galactic Civil War series began!

Wow… I really did rush! On the 22nd of March, my Legend Of The 609th: New Era series began, starting the final chapter in the tale of Blast and the 609th. Chronologically anyway. As we’ll get to later, I’ve mucked around with his timeline since…

This was my first proper attempt at creating an actual scene (one that wasn’t part of a story). I actually created it because I wanted a new buddy icon photo and wanted something cool as it. It looked okay at the time, however when the photo was cropped for use, you couldn’t tell what it was.

It was on the 15th of April 2009 that I uploaded the creation that is still to this day, my most popular moc – Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Despite being simply nearly all of the Harry Potter sets available at the time put together, with a bit of my own customisation, it currently has 65 likes and has been my most popular creation since its uploading.

I decided that I wanted to fill in the gaps that my 609th series had left (and was still leaving), and at the same time, bring all of the series’ together into a timeline that people could refer to if they got confused while reading the episodes. I still really like this moc, I must say.

After running a competition to have a guest star in the final episode of my Legend Of The 609th: new Era series, the episode was released on the 20th April. So in the space of three months, I had managed to upload four series and tell an entire story…. Wow….. I really did rush….

On the 4th of May 2009, I uploaded my first joint moc. Made with Iadsgb, AKA The Essence Of Randomness, whom by now I’m sure you’re all aware is my cousin, it simply features our legions standing side by side…
I then uploaded a moc featuring us playing football (soccer). Yeah. Not quite so normal.

On the 1st of June, the first episode of my longest running and most popular series was released; U.R.S. vs F.I.S..
This war came about because at the time, there were lots of role-play fighting groups here on MOCpages. Those of you who were around at the time will remember the U.N.E. and the C.O.P. etc. (For those of you who weren’t, look them up.) I wanted to join in with these but joining something halfway through and working out what is going on is pretty tough, so instead, I decided to make my own. I created the U.R.S. (United Rebelling Systems) and got Iadsgb to create the F.I.S. (Federation of Independent Systems.) The groups themselves were created on the 16th of April, so we’d been battling it out via the conversation topics since then. But I decided to make some mocs featuring the two armies fighting and it occurred to me that I could make a series out of it! So I did!

On the 20th September, I released my first attempt at making a video trailer. The trailer was for my Juniors Legend series and wasn’t particularly good. (If you’re interested, before the video version of the trailer, I just uploaded the images as a standard moc and it got a comment from Mark Kelso! No idea how it came to his attention but I’m not complaining!) The quality was awful and…. Well, you get the idea. For those of you wondering what happened to the series, the first episode was made but it is currently abandoned. Will I one day make it? Who knows, I have better plans for now though.

This was my first attempt at making a transformer. Inspired by others I had seen on MOCpages, I stupidly thought I’d be able to make one myself. As it turned out I could… partially. To this day I am still pleased with my Decepticon’s right arm. Other than that, oh and the face, he’s pretty useless. But he was only my first effort. Later attempts proved more successful.

This is the moc that earned me 3rd place in the Winter MOColympics 2009! Built purely from parts in the 7676 Republic Attack Gunship set, I, and the judges, were rather pleased with what I managed to create!

After receiving some Sharpies for my birthday (Thank you Iadsgb), I decided to give my sig-fig a makeover. To this day, this is the only use of sharpies that I don’t regret! Haha! I was really pleased with Blast’s new look!

U.R.S. vs F.I.S. Season 2

After a popular first Season, my U.R.S. vs F.I.S. War Series returned for a second season, which began on New Year’s Day 2010.

To this day, this is still one of my favourite mocs. Okay, now, it’s not that detailed as I look back on it, but I still love it and at the time, it was amazing. I was always disappointed more people didn’t comment on it.

As part of the Spring Brickolympics For Average Builders (Yeah, I didn’t qualify for the proper ones…), I had to create a mosaic. This was what I came up with. To be honest, I’m still actually quite pleased with it. It’s not really a mosaic, but it got me through to the next round. I’ve not tried making another one since.

This was my first attempt at proper photo editing. It’s not too bad all things considered. The figures weren’t amazing but the editing was at least half decent.

On the 26th of February 2010, I uploaded my first real-life sig-fig.

After several weeks of build-up, using my new-found editing skills to create teaser posters, I released, again as part of the BrickOlympics, my Atlantis moc. I was really pleased with all of the individual parts, just sad I couldn’t join it all up. It created quite a stir among the judges because they couldn’t decide if it was allowed to be classed as one moc or not. Never-the-less, it got me through to the next round. (No further though.)

U.R.S. vs F.I.S. SEASON 3

After a decent response to it’s second season, my U.R.S. vs F.I.S. Series continued into it’s third, with the first episode being released on the 16th of April 2010.

On the 24th August, I joined the group, World Warfare 2059 and created The Engonian Empire. After just a few weeks, I had taken control of half the group’s factions and then progressed to take over the rest, ruling the galaxy. Unfortunately, due to my ruling, there wasn’t much left to do and so the group became inactive.

Around this time, I started properly getting into Batman, but as I’d not got any of the official sets from the time, I made my own custom figures, as I’m sure lots of you are aware. (In fact, I still need to upload the last of my display bases for them.) On the 15th of October, I uploaded my first Batman moc. It was an okay build. It wasn’t much but it was mainly just to show off the figures.

In the New Year, 2011, on the 4th of January, I uploaded the first of my mocs that featured Katie, my girlfriend. (For anyone who is interested, we met on the 30th August 2010 and are indeed still together.)

My first moc to feature the best band in the world ever, Bon Jovi, came about by a school Art project believe it or not. I did Art and Design as one of my GCSE’s and for a mock exam I decided that I’d focus on the ‘Design’ element, rather than the art. And so I created a stage that was the right dimensions to fit on my teacher’s laptop, so that the lighting rig went around the screen and one of their music videos could be played, so it looked like they were performing live.

It was around this time that I started to really improve as a builder. My techniques improved and my mocs really took off. This example from the 20th May 2011 really shows how far my rockwork came in a short space of time. Okay, yes I could do better now, but back then, it was a lot better than it had previously been. I personally mark about this time as the start of my ‘best’ era. Everything since this point has been of a decent standard, getting better as it goes on.

My first wild-west themed moc was uploaded on the 14th of June and was met with mild success. Looking at it now, it needed a lot more landscaping. However, at the time, I was pleased with it, especially the sloped roof and the tumbleweed.

This Harry Potter moc from the 15th of July 2011, shows my first attempt at putting a base on a moc. I was really pleased with the result and still am, as I am also pleased with the moc itself. It’s one of my favourite ‘Potter’ mocs, if not one of my favourites overall. This moc also shows how good my overall building skills were getting at around this point.

My success in the Harry Potter theme continued when I released the first in my series of 7 HP mocs, one for each of the books. This one came out on the 6th of September and was highly praised, as was the rest of the series.

U.R.S. vs F.I.S. Season 4

After a good third Season, I decided that I would carry on with my U.R.S. vs F.I.S. War Series and Season Four launched, after a break, on the 16th of December 2011. I had originally planned to create a video trailer for this Season but didn’t have the time in the end and so the video trailer idea got pushed back to Season 5.

The 16th of May 2012 brought the release of my first ‘Avengers’ inspired moc. It earned a lot of compliments and was my 3rd most popular moc for quite a while. Another one of my personal favourites.

Less than ten days later, I brought out my recreation of the famous ‘Mad Love’ comic cover from Batman. I created it for a competition on Facebook but liked it so much I uploaded it here as well. It only received 8likes, however received high praise from the likes of MortalSwordsman and Dave Kaleta. It was also blogged on

On the 24th of June 2012, I uploaded the moc which very swiftly became my third most popular (and still is!) My “Battle Around A Destroyed Turbo Tank” currently has a total of 53likes. Another one of my personal favourites, it was created after I simply decided to break up my Turbo tank set which had been sitting around for months. I smashed in both ends and thought… “Hm… this could be a cool moc.” So I made some terrain, just in some figures and voila! (Well, it was a little more effort than that…)

This story tower, telling the story of Harleen Quinzel’s transformation into Harley Quinn, the Joker’s sidekick, was a hit when I uploaded it on the 3rd of July, thanks to it’s unique design. Instead of having the different layers of the tower up the same way like usual, I decided to attach them base-to-base so that the bottom one is upside down and then gets flipped when turned up the other way! I have released one more story-tower since then and have a further 2 ready to post!

I had experimented with lighting techniques during the building of my U.R.S. vs F.I.S. War Series and in subsequent standalone mocs, however, this display which I created to show off my Tumbler, is by far my favourite attempt. It’s also another of my personal favourite mocs and I was sad when it didn’t get many views. Oh well… hey ho, on we go.

The 5th of September that year brought the first in my series of standalone mocs showing different characters from The Inheritance Cycle book series, by Christopher Paolini. This first moc, featuring the lead character, Eragon, wasn’t brilliantly detailed, but it served it’s purpose as a display base for the figure.

I have a couple of Indianna Jones and this is my favourite of them. Uploaded on the 8th of November, it really shows that my building skills were still getting better.

Shortly after I joined the RPG group “The Sith Rebellion War”, on the 17th of November, I uploaded my first entry. It met with great success and was very popular. It also helped my team (The Sith) smash that round. I’m still very pleased with it; it is a very good, clean moc in my opinion.

My “Iron Man Suiting Up” moc was an instant hit and I’m very proud of it. I uploaded it on the 14th of December and it was my first (and only) moc to feature on the “Popular This Week” section of the website. I didn’t have a design in mind while building it, it just came about after fiddling with some technical looking pieces and fitting them all together!

U.R.S. vs F.I.S. SEASON 5

After a long hiatus, due to work and other real-life stuff, my U.R.S. vs F.I.S. Series triumphantly returned with it’s final season, Season 5 on the 15th of February 2013. Beginning with a much better made video trailer (this one included music, effects and voice-overs!), the series was mildly popular. For the final season of a series, it wasn’t as popular as I’d have liked it to have been, especially as the building quality had drastically improved since the last season. But oh well, it’s over now.

The 21st of April brought my 18th Birthday moc. (My actual Birthday being on the 22nd.) The moc was nothing special, just a whip-together to celebrate my leaving the TFOL world and entering the AFOL. Any different? …. Nah, not really. Everyone’s the same, just… older!

And that pretty much brings us up to date. This is “The Obelisk”, one of my most recent mocs, (29th December 2013). Another of my mocs which I deserves more praise than just 2likes, but never mind, I’m not here to moan, I’m here to reflect and celebrate. And this moc certainly celebrates my achievements here on the ‘pages.

In fact, it pretty nicely sums things up…

  • My building skills have dramatically improved over the 5 years I have been here.

  • My skills and techniques are now at a good standard.

  • I’m STILL underrated!

Of course, MOCpages has had plenty of issues during the last 5 years. The big crash of 2012. The constant server losses in early 2013. Etc. But through everybody’s moaning and complaining, I stayed. I was still here, plodding along in the background. I kept going, knowing that it would all be fixed and sorted out in time.
Again, that last point leads me nicely onto my next! I haven’t planned this, I swear! Haha. Of course, MOCpages would be nothing without it’s creator, Sean Kenney. So a big shout out to Sean for coming up with this fantastic site and for keeping it going! Also, shout outs to our wonderful Mods, Mark and Chris! Both are great people (from what I can tell) and also do a great job in keeping the site in one piece (not to mention both being unbelievably good builders!)
I would also like to say a few personal ‘thank you’s to some of my favourite builders, who have inspired me to carry on building through my 5 years here. So in no particular order, thank you to;
Mr. Xenomurphy
Dave Kaleta
Blake Baer
Luke Watkins
Thoy Bradley
Nannan Z

And to the friends I made in my first year here, most of whom sadly, have not been seen on MOCpages for a long time;
Bradley Nelson
Flight Commander Falcon
Commander Hess
Vasilios Nikolaou

And also Commander Fero, Adam Jacomay and Commander Fed, all of whom have deleted their accounts now.

Thank you to all of those people and to the countless others who have, and continue to, inspire me to keep building and to try new things.
Oh, and I suppose I’d better give a shout out to The Essence Of Randomness too. Seems as he’s always been here and we have supported each other for 5 years! Haha! (Did you think I’d forgotten to mention you? Mwu-ha-ha!)

And so that rounds up my reflective look back at my 5 years so far here on MOCpages! It’s been a fun journey and I look forward to it continuing for many more years into the future!

Cheers everybody!
