I finally finished the review and modification on my old creation with new parts which Lego company produced in 2014. I am glad to show you the new look of this Patlabor and it looks much closer to the original design now.
About this creation
Patlabor AV-98 Ingram, definitely one of my favorite robot characters since my childhood. It becomes popular since the first TV series released in 1988 and followed with OVAs and movies. The AV-98 Ingram is the central Tokyo police Patrol Labor or Patlabor created and designed by Shinohara Industries. http://patlabor.wikia.com/wiki/AV-98_%22Ingram%22
The story takes place in what was, at the time of release, the near future of 1998ˇV2002. Robots called "Labors" are employed in heavy construction work. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police has its own fleet of Patrol Labors or Patlabors to combat crimes/terrorism and deal with accidents involving Labors. The story arcs usually revolve around Tokyo Metropolitan Police Special Vehicle Section 2, Division 2. Noa Izumi is the main protagonist of the series, but all of Division 2 play roles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patlabor
This is actually my old creation that I posted on one of the Hong Kong local Lego fans website a couple of years ago. However, these are the completely re-taken photos with recent modification on some parts of the robot. I was really excited about Lego company produced a few new parts in 2014 so I could use these parts to make this Ingram looks much closer to the original look. You can see these new parts from the robot's head and some other areas.
I started to build this stuff from following a 1:35 scale Bandai MG plastic model that I have. I believed Legoˇ¦s mini figure scale is pretty much close to 1:35. It is a very good reference for me to build an accurate and good scale figure.
A close shot on the robotˇ¦s chest. You can see there is a window in front of the pilot head, and there are sort of air in-take areas/radiators on both side of the body. Doors can be opened up just like what the original design is and the pilot can get in and out from the entrance. The seat inside the cockpit can escalate up and down for a little bit. I used technique lift arm parts to create the escalating system so that it works more like the original, but the space inside is very limited.
The left forearm comes with a shield, this is a part that I really happy with. The robot is getting ready to get his electromagnetic riot baton which is stored under the shield.
The revolver cannon is located inside the calf of the right leg.
I tried to add as many articulations as the original design so to make it more poseable.
AV-98 Ingram ˇ§Type 2ˇ¨. The major appearance differences are the shoulders and the head.
The command car can fit one mini figure only although the original story is for 1 driver and 1 passenger.
A good looking mech. I like how the cockpit opens to show the driver and the holster for the gun. It's great that there's somewhere to keep the revolver cannon and that it doesn't just vanish like on many other model of this type. Nice design work!
