Heraldry: -Civilian Life What would your character be like if he or she chose a path free of violence, even the tournament kind? Show us the butcher, baker, candlemaker or other professional within!
Let me take you to a different life, an alternate reality. A time where much pain has vanished and friendships weren't broken. A time where some friendships weren't even made.
"Try as I may I can sell nothing but swords and armor to anyone who happens upon my shop.
It has been weeks since I last had to shoe a horse, make a lock and key or at least a handful of nails for anyone. It's this "Tourney" causing all the uproar, and it's made people so uncivilized."
"I've only had one dealing with this Tourney business, and I'm glad it was only an order form. The form was carried in the pocket of a Mythronian Captain of the guard, who was also seeking my help for his own means."
He'd come to my shop by a recommendation. A recommendation from his own Blacksmith in Meids, who happens to be my father. He had come to Carthal as an 'Over' in the tourney which everyone has been raving about."
Captain of the Guard: *grumbles at the empty shop* Hello? Is anyone here?
Captain of the Guard: I swear, these Blacksmiths have no sense of priority. Keeping a customer waiting? *Hmmph!*
"It was at this moment I had come down to start another day as a Mythronian, trying to stay afloat in the midst of the War."
Drazard: Sorry if I kept you waiting! I've just finished breakfast with my family. Wife and a son 'o 8. What can I do for you?
Captain of the Guard: My sword. It's rather dull and could use a good sharpening. I'd do it myself, but I've a Tourney to run, you know.
"A tourney indeed..."
Drazard: Well, lets have a look! You don't mind of course?
Captain of the Guard: Oh no, be my guest.
Drazard: *Whistles* My, a fine sword it is too! No doubt made for your commission?
Captain of the Guard: It was. But I've something more important than that for you.
Drazard: What's this?
Captain of the Guard: An order form for 30 training swords, to be used in the Tourney.
You'd be surprised, the men go through them like a sack of sugar.
This Blasted Tourney, if people would get on with their lives and not ruin other peoples buisness..."
Drazard: Right this way.
Drazard: Feast your eyes!
Captain of the Guard: You've quite the stock, haven't you?
Captain of the Guard: Which would you recommend?
Drazard: This. The blade is steel, so it is remarkably light, but strong.
Drazard: You can pick up your sword and the rest of your order tomorrow. Do we have an accord?
Captain of the Guard: We have an accord!
And that, aside from him picking up the swords, is the last I ever had to deal with anything exciting. In the following years I believe I made my point clear that I wasn't interested in supplying such a reckless Tournament, even if it was to get mens minds off the war."
Mah Family. :P
Thanks For Looking! Please Comment! :) Soli Deo Gloria!
I appreciate your honesty. I value your opinion over most on the pages. [Don't go getting a big head] You have earned my respect over the past year and, though I am inactive at times. I think I could say I cherish your friendship the most here on the pages.
I've been sitting here for about half an hour trying to say something good, but so far it's all wads in the trash-can. I'd like to say something but everything I type just all sounds hypocritical of me. Wish I could console you, but I can't...

That was a bit of a hypocritical last comment. I know it's been over a year, but you once judged a MOC-off I was in and declared the winner solely based on better presentation...
That's because that was the criteria we were given to judge on. Besides, a shaky camera could have been easily resolved.
I have said in the past (though these aren't my exact words), that a build that's drop-dead awesome shouldn't be shunned and lose to a build which isn't as good just because the one's got cruddy photos.
Thanks, Shawn. That really means a lot to me. :)
I can't say I wanted you to win, but I can't say I expected to win either. Your build was definitely deserving of the win. (Even if I think judging it by presentation is a bit harsh)
Great job David and thanks for the kind words. I have always admired your creativity and work. It was your 7th age group that really let me dip my toes into the water. I was a little intimidated when I saw who i was up against and if you had not been short on time you would have easily taken this round. Win or lose its been a pleasure! =)
This was so hard to judge, you guys both did an awesome job. However your opponents build just seems more complete, so that along with his crisper photography beats your awesome building, and wins my vote.
I must say, the house is quite excellent! And the armory is... very... uh... full! A tip about the path, get some 1x1 brown studs (any kind of brown) and place them along the path and also leading to the cavern entrance. It would defiantly make the ground a little more trampled... if you understand me.
This was not an easy decision. The only clear advantage of one over the other is presentation. Shawn, your entry was well-lit and well-photographed; David, yours was dim and hard to make out. The blacksmith's workplace did, however, have more greebles, but next time it might be a good idea to let in more light or build something smaller so you don't have to leave so many flat plates exposed or you can detail both sides or your walls (the backs of headlight bricks aren't the best looking parts). Then again, the smithy had some functions such as the lit forge and the vault door that regained some ground. However, Shawn's entry's simpler details were better carried-off, so he gets my vote. Again, it was a hard choice, and I wish both of you the best of luck with the other two judges.

Very nice! It seems that in some parts you put a lot of of effort into (the wall) and some parts you didn't even bother with (the interior).
I was running out of time, mate.
I thought the interior was good. Not anything amazing, but good.
I wish you could see the rockwork inside the cave better though. I think it's amazing! (Well, until I added the top. Now I can't see anything. :P )
