Next off, I would like to say that this is just a quick build centered mainly around the story, photography and editing practice, as well as seeing how much dark green I have and testing irregular bases. This moc is not meant to look good, but to support the story.
As I came back from my stroll along the beach of the harbor in which the Dark Queen was staying until the sails were repaired, I saw that a few members of the crew who didn't know how to work with sails (which was what needed fixing on the ship) had set up a small fire on a grassy hill not far off the beach. As I approached, Aran, the Dark Queen's Head of Battle and unofficial captain, came towards me. "How about a friendly match of strength, Qinon... the Lost Ranger?"
So Aran had sent Rico to ask me if I was known by anything other than Qinon as I was walking along the beach earlier today.
I nodded. "Why not?" I said. Aran needed a little something telling him that he was not the absolute boss of the crew. They were all scared of him... I was not.
We walked over to the pile where the other weapons had been thrown down: Rico, Hircan, Racknar and Angela were all settled around the fire, and had heaped their weapons and shields there. Aran and I both took off our capes. He put down his helmet, revealing a mass of long, black, but orderly hair, and dropped his two big, curved swords on the pile. I took off my hood and deposited my bow on the pile as well.
"What are you doing?" Racknar asked, his enchanted metal jaw creaking and echoing eerily as he spoke.
"We are having a friendly match of strength and speed" Aran explained.
We walked back around the campfire and stood facing each other. The others got up and formed a line, watching.
I examined Aran closely. He was a grer, and very strong. He had huge willpower and was probably in his fifties, so he had experience on his side, too. He knew a little magic as well: I could tell from his eyes. He had put a spell or enchantment on them that allowed him to see perfectly in the dark. All in all a formidable opponent.
Then I considered myself: Scrawny, not that experienced, but extremely fast and calculating. I hoped the match would be even.
"The rules" Angela announced, "Are the following. No weapons, no severly hurting or killing your opponent. Begin!"
I started, running at him to see what he would do. I expected something that would at least give me a headache, and he did not disappoint: Aran jumped up on top of me as I charged...
And flipped back off, sending me into the dirt.
"Not bad" I complimented, getting up.
"I see I have yet to wipe that grin off your face" Aran snarled.
I ran at him again. He jumped up again, attempting the same thing, or something similar, to what he did before, but I grabbed his foot...
And flung him to the ground, landing on top of him.
Aran rolled out from under me and shot up faster than I thought he could have been, and I found myself on the ground again, with his foot planted painfully in my back.
I rolled towards his legs, throwing him off balance and sending him falling over me...
Then got up and kicked him over onto his back before he could get up.
I planted myself on top of him.
"Very good" he said.
"You recede?" I asked, my eyebrows raised. I had my doubts, but it was worth a try.
I don't know quite what happened, but suddenly his hands were at my neck, gripping it so hard that I had not even a chance to get the tiniest bit of a breath.
Alarm flared inside my head. Aran was going to kill me. I could feel the strength draining out of me as I tried to get air. It took me a few seconds, too much time, to remember that I had prepared for an instance like this...
With a practiced move, I shrugged my knife out of my sleeve and held it over Aran's heart.
"The rules said no weapons!" He hissed at me. He didn't let go.
My eyes were watering, and I could not think as clearly, but I started pressing the knife, with the strength of someone in danger of death, through Aran's armor. It took him a second to notice, but then he felt the sharp blade pricking his skin, and he relaxed his grip. "The rules also involved no severly hurting!" I rasped.
Aran let go entirely, and we both got up, glaring at each other. I mustered him. His eyes had something I could not place... But the message was obvious: We were no longer friends, or even partners.
We both put on our cloaks and helmets, or, in my case, my hood, and picked up our weapons.
Then I turned and walked away. And as I walked, I realized that Aran had not just choked me in the heat of the fight...
He had tried to purposefully kill me.
Well, that was fun! As mentioned in the beginning, this was basically just to see What I can do with dark green plates. I am pleased to say that I might be using it more often, since I seem to have more of it than normal green (weird, huh?). This was my first moc with an irregular base. I have had mocs with not rectangular bases before, but never a moc with an irregular one, so this is new to me.
Mostly, I was just trying to get Qinon's story along, and make a freebuild. This could be placed into the UC, except that it doesn't quite fit the category, and, since this is a flashback, is too early in the year.
I hope you are excited for the next Blades of the Black Lotus moc (you would have to be, after that epic ending/cliffhanger...). Well, I hope you liked it!
