TT Round 3: Warble Gloaming vs. Jacob Pennington
Bracket: Foot Combat
About this creation
My entry for Round 3 of The Tourney.
My opponent and esteemed guild leader Jacob Pennington.
Guild: Crimson Knights.
Bracket: Foot Combat

- The Smithy
If you want to fight, you need weapons…and good ones too. During the Tourney, the smithy is bustling with activity. The recent craze, while profitable for his business, has not helped the local blacksmith’s temper. Will you be able to sweet-talk him into making new weapons for you and your men, or will a confrontation ensue?

“Normally, I'd love to help ya lads. But this tourney is keeping me far too busy.”
Shamus the Smithy was short, even for a dwarf, and even though he had only one hand, he was still one of the best blacksmiths in Mythron.
“But I need you to build me a weapon,” Rombaer implored.
“I just gave you a grip of weapons last month. What happened to all of them?”
“Nevolnik has them somewhere, and besides...those weapons won't help me. I need something to defeat one of the Gnomes. They're impossible. I launched one into the hills with a catapult, and he barely had a scratch.”
“The Gnomes you say. A weapon to defeat them would be spendy...and you already owe me for the weapons I already gave you.”

“Shamus, please.”
“I don't think you get it,” Shamus began to growl. “I've had to run the forges 24/7 since the tourney started...”

“My workers can barely craft a sword before it's already sold off.”

Rombaer knew it was true, Shamus' shop which was usually loaded to the rafters with weapons and armor had barely more than a dagger to display.

“My repair lines alone have me drowned in work. You boys, going after each other like a bunch of rabid Scrindils. Fights in the streets. Fights in the pubs. All you Tourney folk are raving mad.”

As if to confirm what Shamus had just said, a gruff man dressed in yellow, shouted out, insisting that his hands needed sharpening.

“I've even raided the orphanage to keep up with the work. So, I just can't help ya.”

“If it's a matter of payment,” Neville interjected. “Perhaps this will help.”
Neville pulled out a sack full of gold and showed it to Shamus. The blacksmith's eyes lit up.
“You're rich?” remarked Rombaer. “Why on Earth would you want to be a knight?”
“A Nobleman's life is not all it's cracked up to be.”
Rombaer laughed. “If I was independently wealthy, I wouldn't be out here trying to win a Tourney prize. I'd be sitting on my throne covered in furs, and eating grapes brought to me by hand maidens.”
“Once again, you've missed the point completely. To win the Tourney is to win the highest honor a Knight can attain.”
“Honor!?” This time both Rombaer and Shamus roared with laughter.
“Well, if you don't want my help then...” Neville began to put away the sack of gold.
“Tell you what laddy. My schedule looks like it just opened up.”
Shamus opened his hand for the gold and Neville gave it to him.

“We've got a rush order boys! Outta the way.”
Shamus sprung into action, taking over one of the forges, he stoked the fires hot. He retrieved an obsidian staff and heated the end till it was red hot.

Once, the staff was hot enough, he kicked over one of the anvils, and buried the hot end of the staff into it. The small man lifted this monstrous weapon as if it were as light as a feather.

“There's only one thing as strong as a Gnome's speedo,” Shamus said aloud, as he pulled something from his pockets. “And that's another speedo.”

He stretched the speedo taut over the anvil end and then heated it again in the fire to cure it into place.

“Here you go boys. May I present to you my newest creation. The speedo smasher.”
Rombaer reached for his new weapon and nearly fell to the ground under the weight of it.
“Ah, yes,” said Shamus. “I'm sure you can find a strength potion of some sort to help you wield that.”
Rombaer and Neville left the Smithy's shop, both using all their strength to slowly drag the smasher behind them. Shamus chuckled as he counted out the gold from the sack he had gotten in exchange.

Tree.

The whole build.

Cobblestone.

Some more figless pics of the build.

Some of the micro builds that didn't show up well in the pics.
Corner desk.

Anvils.

Tried to get some shots of the interior, since I took the time (and all my brown flat plates) to make a wooden floor.

Used both the light bricks I have for the forges. A cool effect, I think.

Thanks for looking! Please like and comment!
And best of luck to all the Tourney contestants.

Nice job on the blacksmith shop, the corner desk is also very clever. Mind checking this out if you've got some extra time, http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/381903

Hey Warble, I just wanted to say it was great competing against you. This one was really close and had me on the edge of my seat. I would have felt no shame in losing to you because your entry was so well built and thought out. I look forward to seeing you in the CK group for next year's tourney!

I think this is probably the hardest combination I've had to judge in the entire contest so far, and that's why I'm going to be giving the same comment to both of you. In Warble's entry, I love the tree and the little wall around it, but I feel like his landscaping doesn't flow as well as it could of. In Jacob's, I really like his round border, and all the little details around his smithy, but I think the ground needed some work, mainly getting rid of the cracks. But, in the end, my vote is gonna be going with Jacob.

Your blacksmith shop is quite nice! I love the use of the wooden doors as part of the roof. Great overall shaping of the shop. The light bricks definitely add a cool effect. I felt, though, that the outside of the shop was lacking, but the tree and the ring around the tree was nice! Still, it led to a more incomplete scene. You have the edge for the shop itself, but your opponent made up for it by his other details. In the end, I give my vote to your opponent for a more complete scene. Maybe if you shrunk down the size you would have been able to achieve the level of detail that you had with the shop and tree, or make it more natural looking. Still, great MOC, and good luck with the other judges.

amazing! you add so much texture - i love it. i also like the fact that your minifigs are never just there...clearly you put as much thought into the characters as you do into everything else.

Your amount of detail work is nie flawless, very fun! I love the older looking legos and not new builds, So if I had to chose a fav, I'd chose yours. But Jacob's is awesome too.

Quoting Thomas of Tortuga This is terrific! The porch and shop design looks very nice, and the two enormous forges look wonderful with the light bricks. The photography does justice to the scene, and the humor is spot-on- a delicious change from the usual Gnome-bashing. Very good job.
Thanks Thomas.

I really like the fire, but the build as a whole seems messy.
