The slide can be taken off by removing the slide lock, just like the real gun.
You can see the rubber bands through the ejection port.

This was inspired by Chris K (and a bunch of other M1911s, but his in particular).
Yeah, I know I just built one of these, but this one is so much better. It actually looks somewhat respectable. Features: working slide, slide lock, and hammer. Some of my favorite things about it: it doesn't look horrible. It's actually quite sturdy. The slide works wonderfully smoothly. Some things I'm not the most pleased about: the trigger guard is quite flimsy. The trigger doesn't work (it's not as much fun running around the house going "pew pew" without a trigger to pull). Overall, I'm really pleased with it. I had a lot of fun building it.
