My attempt to build Olaf, the comic sidekick from Disney’s Frozen, using the LEGO carrot element. Olaf really makes this movie, and having seen the Disney film several times now, I had to try building the summer-loving snowman. (Maybe I’ll make a lifesize replica one day!)
Here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to build him:
And here are the photos:
Disney, Frozen, Olaf the Snowman, and the music snippets used in the video above are owned by Disney, whose brand I respect and do not wish to encroach upon. The main image for this page is a spoof I created with Photoshop, and this model and its video tutorial were not produced, endorsed, or otherwise approved of by The LEGO Group or the Disney company.
I had a tough time building this because you need a 4623 (1x2 plate w/ arm up 6mm) instead of a 88072 (1x2 plate w/ arm up 5mm) when building his nose, and wedging the 2x2 tile in there. Otherwise it's impossible to wedge it in. I thought perhaps there were two molds of this piece, and I was correct.
Thereafter, I was unable to get the 1x1 tiles to stay put under his eyes. I was able to make them stay by using another white rubber band to fit above the 2x2 plate ("neck" piece) and then under the "arm" of the 4623. This also helps keep his mouth in place. If anyone wants a picture of this, please let me know.
Great work; I learned something new with what you can do with the rubber bands.
