LEGO-just a bunch of interlocking bricks-you say? Well the LEGO MOVIE proves this otherwise! It is full of the little bricks and then some! This is a movie that definitely spans the generation gap! It is a movie for young and old alike (witness the largest LEGO Group: AFOL [adult friends of Lego] to prove that. It’s like you took the 11 LEGO CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL DESIGNERS from Sean Kenney to Nathan Sawaya and put them in a roomful of LEGO and let them go to town! BUT in this movie it is not them but LEGO Designers whose work gets to be seen on the big screen! And the big screen is chock full of LEGO! Keep that generation gap in mind when viewing this movie) it plays a big role! The movie utilizes almost every minifigure they designed since the were introduced including the “Collectible Minifigures and almost every licenced character that WARNER BROTHERS has the rights to (that’s why no MARVEL minis!) They use every color brick and plate they make to create mountains and cityscapes that will have you popping your eyes out!!! The movie also incorporates almost every MAJOR THEME Lego has had, from city, to castle, to western and even including star wars! Besides the famous licienced minifigures there are a few “sneak-peeks” like Bart Simpson’s friend MILLHOUSE! The stories main plot is simple and not very complex until you see what we as a people go through for independent, free thinking thought and creativity! Keep the word: INSTRUCTIONS in mind as you watch the film! There is much humor in the film as well like Mrs. Scratchpost’s cats! There is much to think about the message the fim delves into! There is the age old argument of “to GLUE or not to GLUE” as Shakespeare’s minifigure may say: “that is the question! There are many surprises in store for you! Batman steals the show in this one, I loved his line: “…and sometimes gray very dark gray!” Why? Because this multicolored film tells the story not in the safe “gray zone” but in clear BLACK & WHITE! To me the biggest surprise was the celebrities who lended their voices in this LEGO MOVIE EPIC! I enjoyed watching weeks before the movie came out on talk shows, because each 'talk show' gave us a different clip of the movie a great advertising ploy! The fact we had both Morgan Freeman and Will Farrell in this movie shows even important stars can let their child out! I was fascinated to discover how many played with LEGO and how many didn't! A fact LEGO soon rectified - they gave each principal star a set before it came out! Lucky Stars! (no not the cereal) This is the first time I ever seen the LEGO Playsets match the movie with great detail! It also takes the idea: WHAT DO I DO WITH MY EXTRA BRICKS to heart! That’s why so many of the sets on sale look like they were made up of many set parts! Wyldstyles Motor Cycle and Emmett hand glider come to mind when thinking of this! Seeing it in 3D made this such a treat! I loved the surprise ending leaving us open and patiently waiting for a sequel (already in progress as I type this REVIEW). The “Micro Managers” are something to behold and are a good building challenge for young and old alike! Trying to figure out just what is this “PIECE OF RESISTANCE” will not take long but realizing what it is is a big impact! I could help but think everyone involved in this production was definitely thinking ‘OUTSIDE THE BOX’ the LEGO Box! I came to understand the need for LEGO Designers to give us THE CREATOR SERIES! Just how important is the 2 in 1 and the 3 in One sets are since they let us explore the many possibilities we as builders have. The pieces are recombined and the main model suddenly becomes two other models. Heck I bought two of THE CREATOR CAT & MOUSE Sets just so I could make the dog! These sets just as EMMET in the movie learns, open our minds to the posiblities. LEGO isn’t suggesting to us leave the finished model ‘STATIS QUO’ but add, modify, change and explore the posiblities beyond the picture on the box! I bought 2 Little Mermaid (DISNEY PRINCESSES) Sets: KISS THE GIRL so I could create a FAIRY GODMOTHER for CINDERELLA’S COACH! EMMET is so typical of most of us who do things so routinely each day of our life. The routine makes us feel stable and provides the stability with the expression there is PEACE in daily routine! Ironically it is so true! I remember when I taught first grade each moring began the same way: The students had to write the “daily news” then copy the home work for the night, open their note books to the home work of last night as I used this time to take attendance and mark each homework. But EMMETT soon learns we also need the yin/yang balance we also need to explore and the nice thing is he takes us for the ride along with WYLDSTYLE, BATMAN, BENNY and VITRUVIUS! We travel to CLOUD CUCKOO PALACE and what a place it is, it is a gathering place (kind of a hippy paradise) peaceful and colorful full of the LEGO Minis THE HISTORICAL TO THE NEWLY MADE. We visit the WILD WEST, The KINGDOM CASTLE, SPACE and UNDERSEA with them! If I had to sum up this movie I’d use a current term: EYE CANDY! And I’d say let me have all the candy because you will feel like a kid in a candy shop ( a LEGO CANDY SHOP)! Using the MOCpages rating system It definitely gets a 5 HEADS! ENJOY all the pictures. I hope you like the ones with the MINIS & THE ACTORS and ACTRESSES who voice them! I included pictures of the HOLLYWOOD Premiere as well! By the way did you see I took over EMMETT'S place on the couch?
About this creation

The LEGO MOVIE Cast: The Lego Minifigures and the Actors & Actresses that lend their voices to them!

Uni-Kitty, a unicorn/anime kitten hybrid

Superman, a DC Comics superhero who is one of the Master Builders.

Benny, a "1980-something space guy

Emmet Brickowski, an ordinary construction worker minifigure who is mistaken for the "Special."

Wyldstyle/Lucy, a "tough as nails" and tech-savvy female fighter who is one of the Masters Builders.

Green Lantern, a DC Comics superhero who is one of the Master Builders.

Bad Cop/Good Cop, a police officer with a split personality who is a member of the Super Secret Police.
NOTE: Neeson also voices Pa Cop, Bad Cop/Good Cop's father.

Vitruvius, an old wizard who is one of the Master Builders. Who accompanies EMMETT, WYLDSTYLE, BENNY and BATMAN in this adventure! (BLIND)(LEGO's first disabled mini!)

Metal Beard, a pirate seeking revenge on Lord Business for taking his body parts.

Batman, a DC Comics superhero. It is not clear if he is a MASTER BUILDER.

Lord Business, an evil businessman who is the company president of the Octan Corporation under the name President Business and tyrant of Brickville. (He also plays a surprise character)

Now for some scenes from the movie (in no particular order:

When I saw this it reeked of Orwellian theory presented in his novel 1984! CONFORM! No individuality - that is totally contra LEGO Philosophy, IMAGINATION is the contra type then for CONFORMITY (once again look just how LEGO enforces that Creativity in its 2 in 1 sets and its 3 in One sets! Hey even with the sets that were inspired by this movie 4 sets come with alternative instructions for a secondary model! I bought the set that has an ICE CREAM TRUCK as its alternative and built that instead of the main model...and I modified it!)

This was so fascinating to see how a LEGO Minifigure changes his/her clothes!

In my opinion the use of Michelangelo in this scene sets the pace of the movie in the fact he is called a MASTER BUILDER and a CREATOR (wow LEGO plugs itself)!

Here's mine:

Believe it or not THE LEGO MOVIE 2 is already in production (after all remember the CLIFF HANGER?)

TEGAN & SARA: are a Canadian indie rock duo formed in 1995 in Calgary, composed of identical twin sisters Tegan Rain Quin and Sara Keirsten Quin (both born September 19, 1980). Both musicians are songwriters and play the guitar and keyboards, they both sing the movies title song: "Everything Is Awesome!!!" (2m43s)

Besides being a review of the movie this MOCpage entry has also made it a part of LEGO History in the facts I journaled it and documented it through the use of the movie stills and the publicity surrounding the movie!

Awesome review. I agree with you, eye candy is the perfect description. Will you go see the film again? I think I will, because there is just so much to see (and being less distracted by details, I will finaly be able to concentrate on the story).
