Bill's 6x6 Round 3: Excalibur
Depiction of the sword Excalibur, as it's being presented to King Arthur by the Lady of the Lake
About this creation
Bill's 6x6:

Fisherman vs. Arci

"It's a myth"

Make a mythical something, be it Atlantis, the Minotaur, or even Bigfoot. NOTE: No making stuff up. If a google search doesn't find turn up anything about your post, you will be disqualified.

So...when I heard mythical, I instantly thought of King Arthur. Actually, I thought of nothing, but the next thing I thought of was Excalibur, rising from the depths of a lake, held by the Lady of the Lake.

I thought this would be mythical enough. I mean, after all, King Arthur is a Myth/Legend, and the magical sword is being presented by a sorceress who lives under a lake.

I based the design of the sword from Lord Tennyson's poem Mort d'Arthur:

There drew he forth the brand Excalibur,
And oer him, drawing it, the winter moon,
Brightening the skirts of a long cloud, ran forth
And sparkled keen with frost against the hilt:
For all the haft twinkled with diamond sparks,
Myriads of topaz-lights, and jacinth-work
Of subtlest jewellery.

Since Jacinth and Topaz were red jewels, I used red lights on the hilt along with the diamonds.

"Cut Steel":

The hand of the lady: (I can't tell if this is super elegant or super ugly)

Super Awesome Shot:

So, I finished this about 30 minutes before the deadline...It might be a bit rushed, but I like it. Whadaya think?

Any questions? You know what to do...Google it! :)

I guess I should note that the pointy part of the hilt of the sword sticks out about a half a stud width I considered this "overhang", as it's less than a brick thickness. Keep building!
