Rigel is the third class of battleships that carried Unitron people away after they abandoned their homeworld for ravaging Spyrius. As the travelling into safer galaxy was tough and difficult quest, they needed to device ships that was able to produce vast amounts of tools, machines, engines, and most of all - energy. Most of Rigels interior space is invested in eight massive towers that are situated on edges of main section. They have very special devices to form tools and machines from molten metal as in Atritian fashion. Also, thier other parts can collect star energy and destroy material again to molecular level to obtain much energy for ships shields, weapons and propellers. Central section has two massive towers that can house much laboratories and research facilities. In the most defended center of ship, there are - logically - rooms for crew. Ship is very fast due to plenty of rotateable engines and two lateral ships that can help ship to maneuver in athmospheric fight. In real life, I could not add laboratory section to main file due to lag, so I plan to make them as separate files and add them later to this MOC.
After landing in their new galaxy, Rigels were in hard duty to produce machines to rebuild New Unitron Empire ... so, after time, new monorails will be built, but this time ... without any Spyrius ...
About this creation
Despite I dont like „fatships“ and anythig saucer-like, I decided to make another centrally symetrical star-like ship, because I enjoyed working with Sirius very much. Another fact is, that I try to make up something like Unitron-style. Considering original sets are very sleek, full of wings, slopes and geometric pattern , I think that star-based ships could match to original idea very well.
I made some changes in color scheme, as some of you told that my Untiron ships are bit unintegrated in style. I removed all grey beside Star Hawks II and reduced amount of trans blue to lighten whole shceme a bit.
I realized that circular deisgns are very demaning in amount of special bricks. I am still a beginner in it and in LDD it is hard to make circular things, so lateral parts of ship are not perfectly circular.
Quarterdomes are one of my most favorite parts. Depsite they are hard to be used in LDD, they can make great central structural motive that is easily recognized even in biggest pictures. So I made two huge towers from them and turned them agains each other tail-to-tail to create central esthetic moment.
Domes just on their own can appear very fragile, so I needed to compress them by the beams as another parts of ships. Those parabolae and wing bearing series of motives are meant to cover that crude beams. Functionally, they are espionage elements for tracking enemy vessels before they can even realize they are scanned by Unitron.
Ships is 3D centrally symetrical, so if you have cut it by trasnsverasl plane, you would get similiar halves. This idea has greatly spared my time in designing, so I was able to produce Rigel two times faster than Antares or Sirius.
One thing that is different from central symetrical deisgn are two pulling ships that are attached to lateral edge of central elements. I added them because I considered overall desing as too bulky, so I needed to attach some wing like structure to prevent it looks to appear as big cosmic ball.
Originally, I planned lateral towers to be much slimmer, so it would look like castle in space, but they were made too massive so they were visually merging with central tower. Thats why I added so many lateral appendices to look more elegant.
Three-head design is one of my most favorite ones. I used „heads“ from Antares to be more apparent in bigger picture.
Posterior wall lacks any heads, I planned to add some engine-heavy structure here to bolester its linear movement, but once again, file capacity prevented me to do so.
Here you can see that many Star Hawks are added to ship. 8 in total, they are here to protect ship from agile enemy flyers that could try to endanger main ship with some torpedos or such nasty things. Usually, Atritian-inpsired batteships only weakness it its slow production rate, so Star Hawks are mostly for scouting nad infiltration purposes
In closer look, you can see most detailed part of ship – tool forming element in lateral tower. Its puspose is to form tools and machines from molten ore by adding more structure on level of molecule-thick layers. It is slow but must high-tech Atritian metode, and by having eight of those elements, tool production can be rather quick.
From birds perspective, you can see true plan of ship. Central strucutre is big dome tower with four lateral towers on each half of ship. Two lateral ships were added by both esthetic and functional purposes.
Now come some structural-issue pictures. This is lateral ship in detail. I tried to make it more elegant, but finally i decided it would be better to make it more functionaly versatile. If main trunk was decreasing in width (as esthetic would tell) it could not bear so many weapon and engines, but as it stand here, I must admit it looks somewhat crude.
Ships plating was deviced in Siarons, I just refined it throughout the time.
Here is worm-like segmental design more clear.
Internal structure of lateral ship.
Dorsal tower. Its function is to store molten ores and compounds in such state that can be easily used to form tools. their top structures are designed to dig into mineral layers of asteroids to extract ore from it.
Trans neon green pieces represent molten ore.
Lateral tower. Funtionally it is a massive shield emitter, purposedly laced here (lateraly) to ircumvent even most lateral parts of ship with shield field. As for shielding usage, Unitron shield is a mixture of original Atritian idea (with shield made to absorb energy shots and store them) and classic bubble-like shield that has just protective, not consuming abilities.
Maybe you wonder why I used red parts. I usualy make a ships framework from normal colours matching original color scheme, but when copying newly made structure, I need to somehow select it. It would be not possible, because I make new modules always inside framework to match perfectly in place. When using some color that is not in your color scheme, you can use color-based selector to select your module.
Lateral tower. Only thing I am not satsfied with it is that it is too big to enable ship look like a proper star.
Those black shells were made to resemble feathers, and trans neon green domes to look like eyes.
Towers framework. It was hard to make it fitting to main ships core.
Finally free ... no Spyrius would ever want to follow us here ... if so, our battleships are ready to greet them ...
I usually don't click in LDD models but when I saw this I was stunned. Such a huge design I can't even imagine how long it took to build. If this were built out of actual bricks though. That would be a sight to behold.
