Rubberband Pullback Dragster

Lego dragster powered by rubberbands, very fast and dangerous too !! Structure is very balanced, everything is around centerline. I'm using 4 strings, tires cant handle more due to limited grip. A launching lever is in the back, press it and boom ... Frame is very rigid and wont break apart. My first versions had some problems with this and with full tension it either go or explodes on my hands like mousetrap :(
About this creation

Trigger is on top, push down to release the power. A reliable trigger was difficult to find.
Earlier versions may go off at any second .. Even this causes some nasty surprises time to time since all that tension is behind one little gear tooth !!
Note those little wheels inside rear-wheels. They add weight and makes wheels accelerate little slower, less spinning. In LDD-file you find a lock system for that one way clutch.

Front weights for wheelie control. In the start there should be a little wheelie. So all the weight is on rear-wheels. 0-3 weight wheels are used depending on the grip available.

Twin drums assembly. Currently using 4 strings, since more only causes spinning. Basically its about how much tension this can take without exploding ;) i'm allready close to the limits....

I've tried to measure the acceleration and it goes 1 meter (100cm) in less than 1 second. Average speed 40km/h+

And a performance video:

Quoting William Ingham what kind of string/bungee did you use for this build?
Any rubber string is OK. I used something used in clothes. Tightening rubber string something.

Excellent LDD file :) All I need is double freetime (lol), but I really want to see how the 4x4 Bungee Blaster behaves :)

Good evening (wherever you are!). I have built a first prototype that works fine :). Your own model helped me a lot! http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/403393

Quoting White Shapes Very inspiring. Found your video on youtube first, then discovered your page here. I LOVE pullback engine Lego cars, and have over 20 of them now, to include the 8205 cutie. Started my own experiences today, and yes, it's tough ! Well done, man :)
Thanks! U can try with longer wheelbase, stronger rubberbands and so on. My current version is 4 knobs longer than this. It has power enough to tear off little pieces of rubber from rear wheels ;)

Thanks for all! I added LDD-file if somebody wants to try this.

What is not seen here, is that center of gravity is about 4cm forward from rear-axle. That makes wheelies easier to adjust with front weights. Also cleaning up wheels and table helps ;) I used regular transparency tape for that. Best wheel for this purpose is 55978 Tire 37 x 22 ZR.

Awesome build. It needs a front air-dam for down force, that will help the frontend stay on the ground.

This is a pretty unique build. I was sceptical first, but after I saw the video I was really impressed. The acceleration and how it is doing the wheelie is fantastic. I also had to laugh in the video. It was very amusing. Very well done!!!
