Built to replace the aging fleet of Independence and Moscow Class Freighters, as well as consolidate ship building resources into one type of ship rather than Military, Commercial, and Scientific vessels. This type of ship is called a Frigate.
About this creation

Ship Lore:

~ Design ~

The Abott Class Heavy Frigate took the Power Plant from the Independence Class Freighters. The ship was the first ship to feature complete artificial gravity that is now standard on each new ship of the UNSC. Also a first was the production variant of the Wormhole Generator that was initially tested on the UE Discovery Research vessel.

The ship featured a new type of Armament for its offensive and defensive actions: Phaser Weapons, these were required because when the UNSC updated the reactors on the GE 420-69B Engines they found that unless the extra energy was used somehow the reactors would meltdown. Phaser weapons were developed to take the place of crude laser turrets as well as take up the extra energy the reactors created. You can spot phasers on any UNSC ship by their appearance as a green dot.

The ship was a dual deck design with a cargo hold and life support in the bottom of the ship with an access latter to deck 2 just aft of the cargo hold. Deack 2 featured the cockpit, crew bunks, kitchen, bathroom, rec area, medical treatment table, a scientific research terminal, a military operations terminal, and main engineering in the rear of the deck.

The cargo hold was large enough for 8 ground troops, 2 ground troops and a Tankette, a large sum of cargo, or an exploratory shuttle craft.

The ship was armored, but only lightly. The main defensive factor of the ship was that the Phasers could fire upon enemy ships outside of their effective range.

The ship was the first large scale capital ship to be able to take off and land on a planets surface, something only the Moscow Class Freighter before it could do.

Class: Abott Class Heavy Frigate

Crew: 10

Power Plant: 2x GE Cold Fusion Reactor Mk.II

Engines: 4x GE 420-69B2 Fusion Reactor Engines

Armament: 29x UNSC Phaser Weapon Banks

Armor: 1 Foot Thick

Length: 305 Feet

Width: 35 Feet

Height: 45 feet

~ Purpose ~

After the UNSC decided to consolidate ship building resources there was no longer the need for highly specific capital ships. Instead the UNSC focused on multi role capital ships and left room for more specialized ships as needed. As such the Abott Class was a ship who's purpose was that of a Scientific Research Vessel, a Military Capital Ship, and that of a Space Freighter and while it was not the best in any one of the categories it was more than well enough suited to do the jobs required of it. This is why the ship served in the UNSC fleet from 2163-2390, an astounding 226 years of service.

~ History ~

The first Abott Frigate was laid down on September 13, 2159, 2 months after the decommissioning of the Independence Class Freighter. The ship was Launched on May 11, 2163.

During its first 200 years of service the ship maintained the Space Commercial Industry as well as led a couple research missions to the far reaches of the Kuiper Belt and the space beyond, The ship also led missions to the surface of Mercury, Triton, Hydra, and Europa, this resulted in colonies being setup on these celestial bodies which then grew into major strategic points in the UNSC production powerhouse.

During this time 5 ships of the class were built:
UNSC 001F Abott
UNSC 002F Newman
UNSC 003F Granby
UNSC 004F Excelsior
UNSC 005F Mosby

In 2323 The UNSC 005F "Mosby" Was converted by the Oran Space Works into the experimental UNSC 001FX "Jackson." The Jackson was an attempt by the UNSC to enlarge the cargo hold of the Abott and in doing so double the width of the entire ship. However the engines were not upgraded to account for the increased drag that atmospheric flight caused. This resulted in the ship losing its ability to land on a planets surface and take off again. As a result of this the plan was scrapped, and the Jackson was dismantled in 2340.

The last 26 years of its service saw its Military limits pushed to the brink as the Aliens attempted to take the rest of the Solar System as well as Earth. This saw the UNSC 002-4 destroying themselves due to reactor overload. However because of the weapons the Abott Class had as well as its Wormhole generator, the Aliens lost their fight for Solar Systematic Conquest and conceded Solar Systematic Space to the Human Race. This eventually resulted in the Solar Systematic Treaty of 2,401 AD, which ceased hostilities between the Alien and Human races under the pretense that Earth would remain under Alien control, while the rest of the Solar System would remain in Humanities control.

In 2390 the last surviving Abott Class Frigate, UNSC 001F Abott, was decommissioned after an astounding 226 years of service. Rather than being completely scrapped the UNSC decided to use it as an experimental rig for its new Quad-Core Cold Fusion Reactor, this ship was known as the UNSC Kennedy Class Super Frigate or UNSC 001SF Kennedy. This ship served as a test rig for 6 years from 2395-2401, the ship was then decommissioned as a test rig and upgraded to the UNSC Excalibur Heavy Cruiser which entered UNSC service in 2409 and will continue to see active service for at least the next 200 years.

Deck 1: Features the large cargo hold for the Frigate as well as the Airlock behind it, the cargo hold has one large front mounted access ramp, this is used for loading and unloading the ship, as well as entering and leaving the ship as well. behind the cargo hold is the Main Life Support unit for the ship.

Deck 2: Features Engineering in the rear, War Operations just forward on the left side of the hull, Scientific Station just forward of Operations on the right side of the hull, forward of the Science Station is a Medical table for treatment of ill crew members on the left side of the hull, forward of that is the Bathroom with toilet, sink, and shower on the left side of the hull, flanking the bathroom in the Deck 1/2 access latter on the right side of the hull, forward of that on the right side is the kitchen with food rehydrator, and Hot/Cold storage, as well as another sink, flanking the kitchen is a Ping Pong Table and chairs for recreational use by the crew members, forward of that are 5 bunks for crew members to take turns sleeping, and finally forward of that is the cockpit with Pilot and Gunnery controls.

*Builders Notes*
This was my first multi-decked ship built with the intent of feasibility... I wanted to include as many things that could make the ship livable as possible, not just a big box with a pilot, a gun, and no essentials... You cannot tell a ship to go on long journeys when you don't even have a bathroom-type area...

And yes, you can build it, you can play with it, you can even swoosh it... its built to be playable.

Great build! This has been posted but I am updating the photos as they render. I took off the "landing gear" but added them back when I closed the "door".
