During the development process of the AT-2a "Deadeye" Non-Loyalist Armored Command began looking for an armored vehicle capable of carrying a larger, 120mm cannon. The primary contender for this roll was the ATX-03a "Sharpshooter"
About this creation
The sharpshooter is designed around a more typical spg layout, with an armored superstructure in the front, and the engine to the rear.
It's development was based around it's ability to mount a 120mm high-velocity smooth bore anti-tank gun.
One of the main advantages the ATX-03a had over the AT-2a was it's rotating commanders sensor unit. While the AT-2a's commander's sight only covered the gun's horizontal traverse arc, the ATX-03's commander had a 360 degree field of view.
Another different feature was the top mounted hatch.
Because of the larger cannon, the ATX-03 could not mount an autoloader. As such, the crew had to be expanded to include a loader. The larger crew required another hatch for emergencies. While a bit small, the hatch does provide a well-protected escape route for endangered crewmen.
