Smaug
This dragon was built to be part of a collaborative build of LakeTown from the Hobbit that will be on display at BrickCon 2014.
About this creation

From head to tail, it's 28" and the wingspan is 35". I made it so that when it's on display with LakeTown, it can be suspended by fishing line so it appears to be flying over the town.

The thought behind how the scales were designed was so that any one of them could be removed.

Ver very good indeed. Especially those tiles reptiles usually have. I think they're called scales. It's a marvel of technique and love for the details

Very, very cool!! Love that head! Looks just like the movie!! Best Smaug I've seen! Wait. One thing. Where's the gold on his stomach? Other than that, it looks epic!

Wow, that's super great. Must be movie Smaug rather than book Smaug, since he has no treasure embedded into his chest and belly. It's all very impressive, of course, but the head and the tail really take the cake. Good work.

Really excellent work, Shawn. First off, it's nice to see you're still putting bricks together out there. Haven't seen anything new in a while. This work is wonderful. I like it when I'm fooled by the scale of a MOC. This is just such a MOC. When I first saw it, I thought it was pretty small and I was marvelling at your parts usage to get such detail in such a small area. Then I had a look at the head and saw that this is actually quite a large work. Love the details, no matter the size. The tail is especially a victory. The head is very well formed and those eyes are malevolent. Nice work.

Very nice, although it looks a bit more like a demon then a dragon:P

Nice! Definitely one of the best Smaugs on the 'pages. Is it poseable though? It doesn't look very poseable.

Whoa, nice. Brilliant shaping, the pose is just perfect, and the dark red and brick red colors flow very well here.

I have been working on a dragon of similar scale myself... I can really appreciate those wings, but as for the source material, I think there should be a scale missing/damaged? It would really make your dragon SMAUG instead of red dragon.
