In the years after the Great War, aces were often hired to protect air freight and skyliners from sky pirates. Such pilots were called freelancers. Here we see freelancer Thomas Reece in his A-14 Punisher, the Crimson Storm. Freelancers could earn very good money but the job was very dangerous. Reece was killed only days after this shot was taken, not in combat, but after he flew his plane though a thunderstorm and a freak lightning strike hit him. It is believed he was dead before he even hit the ground. The plane is armed with two wing mounted 20mm Morris machine guns and a nose mounted recoilless 8.9cm Stijn artillery cannon. It is powered by two Hurd & Whittle MkII Dragon engines.
