after enjoying the Matilda Mk. II kit i decided to get yet another, i was looking on the Cobi.eu website, and on their site i saw a new kit for 2014, the Panther, and knew i had to have one, today it arrived, and this is what i received...
1: kit 400 piece count to build my Panther, inside are the following,
2 of their "Minifigures", one is the CO, at least in my eyes, and he is in a black uniform, similar to an "SS" uniform, the other is in your standard German Grey Uniform,
both have hats, the "SS" a black cap, the soldier a grey steel helmet with the german insignia, and unit markings printed on it, a very good detail, for such a small piece.
the uniforms themselves have the German Eagle, but no "SS", or Swastika markings, which i think is a good thing being that its a childs toy.
accessories to the figures are:
1 pair of Binoculars
1 Model 24 Stielhandgranate
1 MP 40 SMG
1 Maschinengewehr 34 (MG 34)
1 Flak Vest, i find it non historical, so i dont use it
1 Officers Cap
1 Soldiers Helmet
now on to the tank, the tank itself is a very nice toy, its dimensions are as follows
slack track design, allow for fast pushing of the tank, due to a lose track, something you just couldnt do with the Matilda, because you would feel the resistance, and pull back your force.
360 rotating Turret, with opening Commanders Hatch
elevating/depressing Main gun
opening drivers compartment, but no seat, the Matilda has a Drivers seat, i dont get why this one doesnt...
elevating/depressing machine gun in the hull
opening engine hatches reveal the 690HP V12 Maybach Engine (or half of it, being that only half would be visible, so they only give you a V6 engine block)
1 Fuel Can on front left "quarter panel"
1 Toolbox on front right "quarter panel"
1 Shovel mounted to the right, or left side of the tank, you choose which side
1 Pick Axe mounted to the opposite side of the tank than where you mounted the shovel
1 Spare Track Pad mounted to the rear left "quarter panel"
1 Tow Cable mounted to the rear top left of the engine deck
overall i give this kit a 5/5, easy and fun to build, and fun to play with
EDIT: 1/1/17, as I have received the Tiger 131 kit, the rating for this kit has been updated to 6/10, there are better Panther kits from Cobi available that fit the tanks look much better, however this was the first Panther that they made.
I think TLG has the corporate policy refusing to model or accept in Cuusoo actual real weapons, or historic ones which can be symbol of aggressive ideologies. Another question is how really effective it is (not at all, when all kids play COD or WoW or WoT 24/7). They will loose quite a big piece of market against competition if they do not introduce more wide Military history product line (what they did with WWI fighter plane already). Of course they could have more talented and creative designers for the task - moulding cockpit of an airplane or helicopter as one piece is definitely not like that, that is so Mattel/Barbie like thing...
Panther! The only thing that bugs me about this model is the front, which looks a bit too rounded. Other than that, the model looks quite good (esp. the rear), and is very recognizable as a Panther. Bit of a shame Lego doesn't make products with a similar theme (although Cobi Blocks definitely makes up for it.)
