Edrid Torr; running from his past and hiding from his future. Season 1, Part 1.
About this creation
Edrid leaped off the path and tried to regain control of his breathing. As Commander Featherstone and his men drew nearer he pressed himself against the rocks.
"I'm sure I saw him somewhere around here." That was Arioch the spearman.
"Maybe he entered that cave yonder?" Featherstone's voice came strong and clear over the edge of the path.
"I doubt it." Colbert, the archer's, voice sounded like the churning of gravel. "He's not very athletic."
"Why not head back to the fort and wait him out. We have the Torr Insignia." There was a snuffling sound as Gilroy blew his nose.
Edrid clenched his teeth. They were right. He would stop at nothing to regain his Family's Insignia.*
There was scraping of steel on steel as Featherstone lit a torch. There doesn't seem to be anything in there except... wait, what's that? Could it be him?"
"Too bulky." Colbert snarled. "Looks more like an..."
"Orcs!" Gilroy cried.
There was a clomping of iron shod feet and a chorus of growls. Edrid peeked over the edge of the path just in time to see the lead orc launch himself at Featherstone only to be stabbed by Arioch.
The second orc acquainted Arioch's face with his ax while the third engaged Featherstone. A volley of arrows rained on the group and Gilroy let out a high pitched scream as an arrow embedded itself in his arm. Colbert turned and ran with Gilroy at his heels.
A crashing thud reverberated through Edrid's ears as a crossbow bolt slammed into Featherstone's stomach. Edrid winced. The lead orc reached for Featherstone's throat.
Featherstone barely managed to throw himself out of the orcs grasp and as he did so something fell from his wallet and landed on the path beside him. The lead orc picked it up and held it to the light. The sun glinted on the golden band of the Insignia. Edrid could almost feel the orc's filthy throat in his hands but knew it would be a vain attempt. The lead orc finally pocketed the Insignia and headed toward the cave mouth, motioning to his cohorts who grabbed Featherstone and dragged him in with them.
After what seemed like hours Edrid stood and looked up and down the path. No sign of Colbert and Gilroy, the yellow bellied cowards. He looked toward the cave entrance and his gaze fell upon Featherstone's claymore.
Picking it up he gave it an experimental swing. It was light for a claymore but well balanced. He glanced towards the cave mouth. If he could get Arioch's armor...
A few minutes later Edrid was entering the cave. He would reclaim the Torr Insignia and possibly rescue Featherstone, however much he disliked him.
*I was originally going to have a flashback here but that will have to be it's own scene (Scene #2!).
