2014 BrickBattle Games: Round 3 - Graham Gidman vs. Legomania .
About this creation

My entry to Round 3 of the 2014 BrickBattle Games.

"Basic Training" - Build a scene showing the journey a soldier takes from day one of basic training to graduation day as a commander (or general).

My opponent is Legomania ., who's entry is not yet posted.

Hey there, guys!

You're all probably wondering why I didn't do a story tower, I mean, the category is perfectly suited for one. Well, the thing is... I have a great dislike for story towers. So, instead, I put the task upon myself to create three seperate scenes depicting the soldier's growth (training as a young man, fight off Orcs as an older, more skilled soldier, and then finally being promoted) that somehow all meld together. Let me tell you something, that's not as easy as it sounds, especially when one of the walls is at an angle. But luckily for me, the dimensions somehow all decided to work together and make it work.:P

In other musings, I decided red knights instead of blue because I actually quite like them and I think it's about time they were used for protagonists instead of their common usage of antagonists. :)

I removed the chair real quick, so as to give a better view of the standard.

Soli Deo Gloria!

-Graham

Fantastic work all around! My only real complaint is that the rocks are a little blocky - and it's a small one.

Wow, that is one awesome entry! Everything flows so well together, and it all makes sense story wise as well. The little details too make this really stand out - like the gold behind the windows...so well done. You have my vote.

GOSH why is it that whomever you face I have the Hardest Time deciding who to vote for!!! Legomania built an excellent moc. It has good story good, it runs smoothly, there is use of some great technique usage and it fits the category. your build Fits the category, has excellent Technique usage, and has a unique presentation. How do I decide?!?! heh. well since I am a judge I must make a decision.....Just building suspense here..... .....I vote Graham. my reason? maybe I am a little bit wanting you to win but I really do enjoy your build. I love its unique presentation. having the Orcs marching apparently through the rest of the story was a good accent. showing that the training and the award is about the war and that the soldier has to fight to get from basic training to general. well there you go. I really like Legomania's build but my vote goes to you Graham.

Man, the matches in round 3 are REALLY close... I'm really not sure who I'd vote for if I was a judge... Nice work with the rocks, and I like the textures on the walls and stuff. Good luck!

Fantastic work! This is far better than a story tower. And the story you have in the build is great. :)

Wonderful job! To add on to what Dunadain said, adding more brown 1x2 tiles around would help a lot. Also, I don't think the ground should look so straight where the ground meets the stonework. More unevenness would help, if that makes sense. Still a great build Graham! Good luck!

Nice build Graham! Your rockwork just keeps getting better and better, as does your landscaping. I on the other hand absolutely love story towers, but the way you were able to make all of the scenes flow is very well done. Good luck!

This is Outstandingly Awe-Inspiring! I Love the landscaping, rock-work, design, and basically about everything else! Legomania is going to have to come up with something very good to beat this!

Amazing. The build is masterfully done. Acutally I like that I feel a story tower would have lost detail and been overly cliche

Nice work! The splitting up the MOC into three segments worked perfectly! The stonework is great and so is just about everything else! The only thing I see that may not help you in this round is your terrain. It looks a little bland but the rocks themselves are well done! Good luck!
