What would have happened if Bilbo had just... GIVEN THE RING BACK TO GOLLUM?? Would Lord of the Rings have happened at all!? Give us a new, alternate way to start the epic trilogy, whether it's Sauron hunting down Gollum beneath the Goblin caves or Bilbo accidentally dropping the ring off an eagle's back.
In a small cave under the Goblin Tunnels...
Gollum: “MY PRECIOUS IS LOST!!!!”
Bilbo: “What have you lost?”
Gollum: “A ring, a golden ring, a precious ring, my birthday present!”
A sudden understanding, a pity mixed with horror, welled up in Bilbo’s heart and then quite suddenly, with a new flash of resolve, he reached into his pocket and handed the ring back to Gollum…
Dismayed by how nearly he had come to losing his precious Gollum began seeking a new place where he could hide it and protect it against the chances of the world. As he wandered from his cavern, though, his journey was interrupted by a band of goblins. Using the power of the ring, he managed to persuade them to accept them as their king (an open position since the death of the Great Goblin a few weeks before).
He spent many happy years ruling over his kingdom; eating fish three times every day and entertaining his admiring subjects with little songs he composed.
But the ring had not forgotten its true master and as Sauron grew in power in the land of Mordor the ring pulled ever harder on the mind of Gollum. At last, 61 years after his coronation as the new Goblin King, he resolved to leave his kingdom and take a long holiday. He decides to disappear in the middle of his upcoming birthday celebration for theatrical effect.
At the climax of his birthday feast Gollum rises to give a speech to his subjects. At the end, he slips on the ring, hoping to escape privately for his holiday. As he slips on the ring the world is covered in a black fog. The darkness reaches up to catch him, and suddenly his vision is caught by a great eye, wreathed in flame, that seemed to pierce through his feeble flesh to torment his mind.
Sauron: “I See You!”
4th wall commentary: I had the idea early on to have Sauron searching for Gollum (maybe I got it from the category description??), so I built the base to represent that with the eye and the rings. Then I had the idea of Sauron's dark power stretching out to grab Gollum. Then I had another idea of making Gollum the new Goblin King which all led up to this... a little moc with a long story/description (at least for me). I have to confess that I got a little distracted from working on this model by my MocOlympics entry (coming soon!).
Oh yeah, I guess I had better tell you what the Uruk-Hai are doing. They are being sent by Sauron (via Saruman) to capture Gollum under the Misty Mountains now that he knows where the ring is.
Thanks for looking (special thanks to anyone who took the time to read the description)! And a special thanks to the judges for giving me a great category! ;)
Nice entry, but the overall effect of the entry is kinda lost by the presentation - darkened pictures, special lighting, black background, etc would add a lot. As such, I'm going to judge solely off technically merit. Yours was more refined than J-rods, but the best parts of his entry combined would beat your entry overall. He gets my vote.
Great work, Finn! The eye is well-designed and the tentacles in the darkness closing in on the lone island of has a great effect. The rockwork is splendid and I also like how you made the Uruks wading through the blackness instead of walking. I wish you the very best of luck!
I like it

NOICE bro!! Good luck against J-Rod but I think you can hold your ground with this!! Very artsy! :P Great rock work and creative base!
Nice work! I really like your story, it was well written! You did a great job with the eye and rock work but the tentacles seem a bit out of place. Other than that, excellent work! Good luck against J-rod!
