Audi R8
Part of MegamOC 2014.
About this creation
This is my 6(7)-wide version of the Audi R8.
Even despite several "artistic liberties", this characteristic car is easy to recognize...

One of the choices I made, was to keep the front rather simple, and totally redesign the headlights. There are other versions out there with a more accurate front, but I wanted a cleaner look, which doesnt allow ALL details to be implemented...
Anyway, some inspiration was gotten from builder "Popider".

Only looks like an R8 from the side. Having said that, this fact doesn't take away from the excellent job you did with this car. The artistic liberties you took with this were executed well. :-)

Nice curves, nice shaping overall, and nice innovative wheels! I really like this scale and height. Does it fit a minifig torso and head?

You should submit this to LEGO ideas for inclusion I their new speed champion line of sets. I see these GT cars race in person and you really capture the details well in this small scale.

Quoting Henrik Jensen Excellent Audi! I fully agree that the shape is the most important thing about models in this scale. It's kind of a stroke of luck when one manage to hit both shape and details. Is it Technic elements used at the front underside?
Thanks, yes they are Technic. I used these pieces as the front bumper on my red/white VW T1 too...

When they're this size, it's knowing what to leave out that can make all the difference. Nice, clean looking car.

Looking at the front, with the details so wrong, this really shouldn't be so recognisable. However, thanks to the accurate capturing of the shape and the character (the overlooked, but most important aspect of car building in my eyes) this is instantly recognisable. Masterful work at this small scale, you've done a fantastic job. Excellent!

Quoting Peter Norrish Because of the rear wing it looks like the R8 LMS more than the standard R8. But still superb!!
Its NOT a stock R8! -To everybody; Thanks for the comments!

Amazing! The shaping is perfect. If fact, the shaping is so good that I wonder whether it would even be possible to do a better job at an 8-wide or even 10-side scale. The parts you have chosen to model the curves seem perfectly suited to this scale.

Thanks a lot! I think some of the new 2x1 curved slopes might come in handy here. Unfortunatly, I dont own any at all...

@Harry Gravett; Thanks. No merit for making it recognizable though; Too easy ;-) @David Roberts; Thanks, those are actually dark trans pieces, but Im really bad at taking photos. @Michael Rutherford; Thanks. Some good ideas was borrowed from other builders though.
