M.O. 2014 Rd 3: Cheeseburger in Paradise!
I like mine with sweet cherry tomatoes; lettuce & olives on a colorful bun of Key lime or tropical flâvôs!
About this creation
Bracket: #1
Category: Living and dying in three quarter time!
My Esteemed Opponent in this round 3 of the MocOlympics: Tom Remy

Add a “frozen concoction” & a sweet tropical side Dish, and you have…

Tah, dah… “A Cheeseburger in Paradise”!

Now, some say that…

“‘They Don’t Dance Like Carmen No More”

But, after more than enough of a “frozen concoction”, they plead, “Dance with me”…

“Dance with me”…
Bossa Nova, Calypso, Mambo, Reggae or even "Three Quarter time"!

Ahhh, now lay back and listen…

“There’ll be huggin’ and squeezin,’”…

“a little pleasin' and teasin'”?!

And, a double foot massagin’ too! ;)

(My favorite photo, he’s totally soused… uhmmm… RELAXED and in PARADISE!)

4th wall:

After having listened to way too many of Buffett’s songs through the years, I visualize Florida Key Westerners as being layback souls by day, but major partiers by night! Now, the title of the category is actually a line from Buffett’s song, “Nautical Wheelers”, which is why a ship’s steering wheel was placed in one of the corners of the layout. Additionally, a number of the lines in my commentary are taken from that song, as well as, some from his wider known songs! Finally, I hope Jimmy will not be too upset with me for ‘touching up’ the wording of those lines from ‘Cheeseburger in Paradise’ that were found in my Intro! ;)

Quoting Lee Jones Dang man, this is awesome. I haven't seen those figs forever! Very well done, and a good run at the prize. But so it goes. Thanks for sharing. Lee.
Thanks Lee, it was Nick Barrett's use of them that first spurred my interest in them! :)

Quoting Stuart Lucas Wow, I really like your use of the homemaker figs here to give the cheeseburger a real paradise! While I'm not surprised that Tom edged it given how amazing his build was, I thought you really gave him a run for his money. Great stuff, and funny too! Oh, and I'm glad someone's heard of Jimmy Buffet. Next year let's have They Might Be Giants as a category...
Thanks for stopping by. I like your category idea! It's not Is-tam-bul... wait?! ;)

@ Topsy: True... It really spoils the games a little... I choose to ignore all this and enjoy, as I try to do in the real life! And cuddling the cat while I type helps too :-)

Quoting Tom Remy Don't be :/ Topsy! I always have a laugh with your builds, except when I don't get it! ;-) BTW, I do the same as for purchasing stuff for the current round. Even when I'm not broke.
Tom, one is always saddened by not winning. But as I told you aleady, I am happy for you! Now, what I am really saddened, disgustied, surprised, name an emotion... I've experienced so many... about is the behavior/actions/beliefs/misconceptions/misunderstandings/etc., that have occured during the competition this year! No wonder the world is in such a mess! :/

Quoting Nick Barrett I enjoyed both builds in this round, and despite my desire to see homemaker figs rule the Earth, I find that Tom's build is meatier (!) so he has my vote. Good luck with the other judges.
As I stated to Tyler, I knew I was taking a risk my using the larger figures which equate to having to have a larger piece inventory. I also was troubled with whether I should use the Homemaker figs whose reinvention is really your idea! In the end, I went with it! So, I can at least say I build what I felt! I can also say that this experience has given me a better feel for your building skills with those figures. Right now I feel like Salieri must have felt towards Mozart, only I have many Mozarts! :/

Quoting Tyler Halliwell Fun build here Topsy, the anthropomorphic hamburger made me laugh. However, I've gotta give it to your opponent, his paradise looked slightly more delicious. Still great show, and I enjoyed seeing both entries!
I knew I was taking a risk by using the larger figures. My pieces collection has variety, but not quantity within each variety. Larger figs mean more bricks for the surround. But this is the idea that came into my head, so I just had to go with it! I have vowed to myself that I will not purchase any new stuff during a round to use in that round! Oh well, perhaps next year?! :/

Quoting Dennis Price Tough call here, my friend, but the edge goes to your opponent by the slimmest of margins. Very whimsical and the burger itself is a charmer: watching his descent into paradise was quite fun. Now I'm off for a slash of honey dew vine water in the moonlight with Buddy Bear ...
Thanks, Denis! Enjoy... what could be better than wine time in the moonlight with a pal?! Well, unless it is a 'Moon Over Miami'! ;)

Quoting Kermunklin the Giant Evil House Head Wow. I can't even really comprehend the category, so it is fitting that you did something totally baffling with it. I'm reasonable sure that Cheeseburger in Paradise is in 4/4, but with your fun and demented take on it, who cares! That cheesburger is awesome, and that's just the icing on the cake! (er...pickles on the...oh nevermind...I got nothing. Awesome work and good luck!
The 3/4 time bit in the category name comes from lines in Buffett's Nautical Wheelers song. I'm sure you are right about Cheeseburger being in 4/4 time, and of course, some of the latin/tropical/cuban rhythms are all funky like 6/8, etc! It just seemed natural to me to have my Cheeseburger diggin' Buffett's songs too! :)

Quoting David Alexander Smith Possibly your most whimsical, beautiful piece. I do want to be a cheeseburger in paradise.
Of course, David, I must give a cheer to Nick who has employed those vintage Homemaker pieces before. And although Nick is a judge this year, I'm not ashamed for using them, as I have built 2 builds already this year using them. I just happen to adore the vintage figs like Homemaker and Belville! ;)

Quoting David Roberts That's really trippy! I like the big glass and the way that you've made the sun lounger. My favourite thing is the headgear on the lady who reminds me of Carmen Miranda.
Thanks David! I spent a lot of time with various designs for that lounger, but this was the one that I thought really looked like a lounger. And of course, the Carmen headgear allowed me to make use of bananas, so necessary in a build like this! :)
