"MOCOlympics 2014 Round 3"- Ranger Elegost vs. Ian Spacek: Notre Dame Cathedral
About this creation
Bracket 4:Chris Phipson, matt rowntRee, Mark McPeek

Ranger Elegost vs. Ian Spacek
Micro-scale: Build anything (be it from a movie, a book, or something architectural like a skyscraper or historical landmark) in micro-scale.

Entry for the 2014 MocOlympics Round 3
My amazing opponent Ian Spacek

What happens when you start building a Mirco Hogwarts which doesn't work...
When you start building a Micro Medieval Village that doesn't work...
Well you ask your dad for suggestions of course :P

My Dad loves the French culture and the French language, so as soon as I asked him I knew it would be a famous French building and I'm so clad he gave me the suggestion because this build turn out very well :D

Notre-Dame de Paris is very old, over 800 years old! Appointed bishop of Paris in 1160, Maurice de Sully decided to give the capital a cathedral worthy of France’s largest city. He wanted to build it in the style of the day, now known as the gothic style. The Church, notable residents of the city, and the entire population participated in construction, some offered money, others offered their labour, while others offered their knowledge. Construction began in 1163, and Notre-Dame would be completed some 100 years later, in 1272.

p.s- keep an eye out for Quasimodo ;)

Hey, I'm the person that was supposed to supply you with your prize from the Fantasy contest. Do you still want it? I can try to make it this weekend or next weekened. I got REALLY busy helping family out and stuff and TOTALLY forgot. I just need to order a clone trooper and make you a figure. If you still want it, I'll try my hardest to make it. Again, super sorry I forgot. Also, I changed my name like, five times. -Argo

Quoting Ian Spacek Well all I can say is well played, Ranger. When the votes come down to personal taste and lighting presentation, there's nothing for the winner to brag about. I've never played a more nerve-wracking Round. Well done. You'll be a feared contestant for years to come.
it was a great round Ian and I'm glad to have been up against such a magnificent builder such as yourself :D but I'll have to admit I'm glad I went with a fight ;) now you better win this thing Ian!!

Quoting Mark McPeek Firstly, you guys should be mighty proud of what you accomplished. Your entries were worthy of a final. The amount of detail you both managed to capture is astounding. I don't think I've seen many micro-scale builds that are better than these two. I wish both of you could advance, but since I have to decide, my vote goes to Ian. This was a really difficult decision. Ian's lighting effect was what won me over in the end. In terms of building, you were equal, in my mind. Thanks a lot for your fabulous entry, Ranger, and thank you for competing this year! I was really impressed with all your entries, especially this one!
Thanks Mark, it was close and I'm glad I went down with a scream :P

Quoting Chris Phipson This is another one of those matchups that are just BRUTAL to be a judge in! You guys both knocked it so far out of the park on this one that it's STILL going! I really can't find fault with either build. Both are amazingly detailed and just really, REALLY the top tier of what this competition should be. That being said, I have to put my vote somewhere and as was the case with another matchup in this round, it's coming down simply to one thing. Personal preference on my part. And I just enjoyed Ranger's moc a little more personally. Ranger has my vote. Good luck to both of you! Still one judge to go! ~ Chris.

Quoting matt rowntRee Actually, Ranger, I would disagree with your assessment. I found this match up to be the pinnacle of the round. Both you and Ian are equally fantastic builders and this is something that you should never be ashamed of. I saw this and thought immediately of my own defeat at the hands of Nick last year. I am still extremely proud of my show as you should be of this. Don't ever sell yourself short, this should be proof that you're worthy. Still an amazing job and you better be in the MOs next year. ~matt

Quoting matt rowntRee I don't think there could have been a better pairing of combatants. You executed this astonishingly well. I have to resort to nitpicking to decide, I think if the apse were a bit longer, the proportion and shape might have been in your favor. As it is, it is way more astounding than a vote for Ian's deserves to reflect. He has my vote, but this is truly a masterful work of Art. You know you've done well when the judge feels bad for his decision. Absolutely fantastic work, Ranger!
I knew he would, he's so much more popular than me :-/ and such a better builder

I'm thinking the same thing, dude. Your MOC is an intimidating beauty. Historically the cathedrals were created (in part) to instill a sense of divine awe and fear of God in the largely illiterate populace of Medieval Europe. You've certainly captured that element here...and I think the fear part is affecting me too, haha.

Quoting Ian Spacek Hah, I considered Notre Dame too. I've certainly got to hand it to you for size and speed-building! I took the small and highly detailed approach. It'll be interesting to see which the judges prefer. You've certainly set a high bar. If the category was "architecture" you'd have it hands down. As it is, I still have a little hope, but you've got me biting my nails! Good show man!
Thanks a ton Ian :) To be honest I don't think my build fits the category that well :-/ It's big but I think if I had a smaller build with lots of details, then that would have been better :) But either way I'm looking forward to your build Ian and Good Luck(although you probaly won't need it :P)
