My Opponent is Justin M. Good Luck, Justin!
My category is: Pair Dare: Select two specific kinds of pieces (for example: the 1x2 brick and the jumper-plate) and then create a MOC using ONLY those two specific pieces. Feel free to use multiple colors of those bricks but they must be ONLY those two bricks. Choose wisely!
OK, so when I got this category, the first thing that came to my mind was "No way, they should have saved it for Round 5 like last time." :P Then, I thought, "Out of all of these categories, I had to get Pair Dare". Then I realized that my opponent had already done pair dare once, so it gave him an advantage. And then Justin posted saying that he only had limited time to build, so I guess that makes it even again....
Anywho, I immediately decided that a standard combination (which typically includes the 1x2 plate) wouldn't do at all. I looked at every Pair Dare Moc I knew of for inspiration. Finally, I decided on the Arm Mechanical, Exo-Force / Bionicle and the Bar 1L with Clip Mechanical Claw. Those two bricks have lots of possibilities for combinations, and the arm gave me a nice shape to sculpt with.
So, on to the Moc!
As you can see (or maybe not, because the lighting is pretty bad), I made some sort of tribal shaman. He is seated, because even if I had had enough black arms to make him standing, they wouldn't have supported his weight.
This picture makes it look a bit like he is floating...
His legs. They are, honestly, my least favorite part, but they are better than anything else I could have come up with.
The head was the first thing I made, and the only thing that didn't undergo a complete structural redesigning.
The hand was made so that I can clip stuff on and make it look like he is holding it. I can switch the staff to the other hand, which is the only play feature that this thing has.
...the back structure. It's extremely flimsy, and extremely frustrating. It took me three or four tries to get the chest stable enough to withstand adding the legs.
A closeup in which you can't really see anything.
And lastly, a WIP. It already has the finalized design for the head, but the design for how the chest is held together is the first of three or four iterations.
I am very sad that I could not get a good close-up of the chest section, because it is the best part... ah well.
I am not completely happy with this moc, but it will have to do.
