Lowcastle is a third and the last of three main parts of Atris - "castle that does not fall" or, if you will - Dragon Castle. It is founded when HighCastle is secured, usually on the only exposed part of castles perimeter, to defend its entrance. Atritians love symbolics, and since that all parts of castle has its meaning. Above the main gate there is always a writing : If you want truth, shelter and security, find us in Winterstar. If you want to see our life and struggle, climb to HighCastle. If you satisfy yourself just with our glory, stay here in LowCastle. So - Winterstar is meant to be unsiegable citadel, HighCastle is their home and LowCastle is build to make export goods and to welcome guest. The only main parts of this section is main hall, that is something like very fancy hotel for guests, and SouthTower, which is opposite of NorhtTower - it is very robust, scary looking and its interior shows all achievements of castles owners. In this model, main bulk of my works are four identical Palaces in shape of dragons sitting on a mountain. They are originally part of Winterstar, but it become so large I had to move them to the smallest part - LowCastle. I sometimes dream of a better computer as main part of my creations are only partially finished because of lagging computer.
About this creation
Lowcastles layout is significantly different than crownhill in HighCastle or mountaintop on Winterstar. It is called „snakehill“ and it is composed of several (here three) parallel ranges tha descend from winterstars mountaintop.
You can see that LowCastle itself is much smaller in terms of area that is occupied by it. I planned to encircle it with two additional rings of walls, but again – file capacity is too low.
LowCastles map. It is roughly centrally symetrical with temple platform heading north.
Prominating range on south side would be place of SouthTower – I plan to add a MOC specializing on dragoncastles curtain wall as well as one with small city below South tower.
It was very tough to made up a color scheme that would show all the details. In case i havent succeeded, there are always detail pictures included later on.
I havent included pictures of hill itself, but I think its structure is more than apparent. Color distinguishment was made becuase I planned to add a curtain wall.
Fair-gold plates were used as floor where palatial structures are placed. Note central symmetrical four wingl-like platforms for palaces, central citadel where main hall is placed, and ring of non-symetrical curtain wall, euipped with very tall „nest“towers, diamond-shaped bastions and snake-like wall itself.
Map of castle platforms from above.
Platform sections with main hill deleted. When doing platforms, I could copy only the highest parts, all sections touching hill had to made manually, brick after brick – it was a very difficult job to do.
Platforms all alone.
Now detail pictures come. This yellow part is made for holding dragon-shaped palace. Its cylinder-shaped niches are actually factiories and workshops where people from HighCastle work.
Round parts are big storehouses, where food is deeply frozen and prepared for a very long siege. In fact, Atritians have very little internal conflicts due to their moral codes + dragon castles are so huge that only fool would attack them. Nevertheless, one does not know what future can bring ...
Main tower platform. It is owergrown by Trees of Eternity. Atritians grow them wherever they can, as they bring majority of their food and fabric, so they are fed and clothed by them. Four towers on corners are „light cathcers“ similliar to Valarcar temples. In addition, they glow in the night, so guest accomodated in main tower halls can continue in their works even in night.
Citadels hall. They are four, and in fact they are clusters of towers opened to main room. That is giant and equipped with mighty spell that enables guest to fly in this room and chat with everybody they want. Hence this, it is called Flying Hall. Atritians love flying here, so there are many sports which require flying, and it is main source of diversion in dragon castle. This idea came from my dream where I was flying :-)
I tried to emulate churchs organ when building this hall.
Dragon- shaped palace. When copied onto four dragons, it occupy a whole third of file capacity. I planned to add them to wintestar, but I could not do it, so they are situated here. Whole structure of castle is inspired by model I made in Age of Mythologys map editor, so one day I may give some photos of things that keep insipring me.
Dragon has atritian proportions – thriple thorax with three pair of wings, subtle pelvis and very long tail that forms a tower on its postremous edge. Head is little bit large, but I managed to make it very large brain cavity as atritian dragons are incredibly intelligent creatures that spend most of their tomes thinking and teatching.
Birds aspect of dragon.
Dragons neck is made by simple technique with old hinge parts. To hold in desired position, i inserted some slopes between hinges. I wonder if it would hold in real LEGO.
Dragons trunk and tail exposed.
Main cathedral. It was inspired by Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain.I tried to make it as elegant as possible, even in such large scale.
Here you can see its circular ending, architectonicaly said as „apsis“.
As Sagrada, temples main tower is situated on crossing of main corridors, which is very difficult to make
Crossing of lateral corridors. Note that roof is ascending towards portals, which was meant to look like flowers leafs.
Inner parts of catherdral – note window parts used as pillars with glass parts as vitrages.
Atritian cathedrals are bit different from our ones. Their walls are much wide and composite, with many corridors and small chapels, even with cells for pilgrims and museum-like rooms. Aside from liturgical ceremonies, main part of Atritian religion is contemplating and praying in solitude, which are such numerous rooms and towers made for.
In real life, I had significant dillema of how can Atritians be magical-based civilisation when I as christian should not think about occultism and such topics. My fantasies are my dearest part of life, so it is weird for me as peaceful person to have my creations have histories full of wars, magic, struggle and death. As for their religion, I conceived it to be similiar to christianity with magic implemented as their way of living, not as crossing borders which God gave us to respect. Similiary to J.R.R. Tolkien, when elven abilities were not regarded as magic, but it were Saurons and Morgoths dark arts that were named as magic and sin.
Citadels main tower. It is very cavernous building with several main halls each above another. Aside from meetings and feasts, it is very defensive-oriented and serves as LowCastles citadel. In case of sudden strike, castles inhabitants rush here to protect their guests.
Citadels cavenous interior.
Welcome in Dragoncastle, sit here and rest from your long journey. We are pleased that you came, at last .
Thank you both guys for your continual feedback, it means much to me :) Stephan, all about Atritians and their allies came from my fantasies. As a child and teenager, I spent my of my free time by creating role-play games with my siblings, where my sister was a main character (ususally borrowed from some phantasy film), and I was the creator of universe. First, my minds creations were quite copies of fantasy and historical fact, but over years I developed so much original features that they have become something much different than in other fantasy. And, as a former painter, I have drawed much pictures about Atritis, so after years in my early adulthood, I have still plenty of unpublished material which I take my inspiration from :-) . And about time - as my MOCs a´heve similliar file capacity, to create battleship or such castle it takes about a month of continual work (in my work days), but during holidays I can make such thing in two weeks.
Nice work, Michel. The frightening stature of the Castle seems to forebode any want to attack the fortress (It could be called a fortress, couldn't it?), and the four large statues top it all off. I can't really find any problems with the MOC that would not be a nitpick. Great job. :) ~Alexander
