Ka'arik, Bringer of Famine
My entry to LEGO's "Battle for the Gold Mask" Contest. Ka'arik is a sinister reaper-like figure with the power to create famine and hunger.
About this creation
Ka'arik was once a wanderer, roaming from town to town helping those that he could. Unfortunately, many viewed Ka'arik as a curse to their towns. Ka'arik possessed the power of famine, and was able to drain the health and power from his enemies by touching and striking them. This unfortunately affected those that he rescued as well. Many of the people he saved would be left with sensations of unease and dizziness. He was careful not to kill anyone innocent, but he felt that his purpose was elsewhere. He found company with a band of pirates, one vortixx, and three glatorian. They set sail for an island far out in the ocean which was completely uncharted (it would later be known as Aki-Nui). Upon landing on the island, the pirates found a pool of antidermis below the island's center. The vortixx, wanting nothing more than to steal the ship they were sailing with and the treasure on the ship, betrayed her shipmates and Ka'arik, knocking them into the pool with her sword. The three glatorian sank to the bottom and were never seen again. Ka'arik however...

...had reawakened.

Taking a fierce new form, Ka'arik had been reconstructed by the corrupting properties of antidermis. His entire structure was altered to that of a Makuta.

Brandishing a sinister scythe, Ka'arik attacked the vortixx in rage. The vortixx was able to escape the chamber in time and make off with the stolen goods however.

Ka'arik was no longer the same. Once a sympathetic and caring though very discouraged individual, he was transformed into a vile and reckless villain.

Weary from his journeys, Ka'arik made his home in the chamber, and descended into the antidermis pool, and fell into a deep slumber that would last for many years.

After decades, the island of Aki-Nui was settled by Matoran and Agori alike. Ka'arik was about to awaken once again, now with a message from Makuta..."My empire shall rise up once again..."

Well that was grim.

So yeah, this is Ka'arik, my entry to the aforementioned contest. He's one of my favorite mocs that I've ever made. He actually used to be my self-moc, but this isn't the case any longer. I have worked for a very long time on this moc, and it has become one of my favorites. I feel like now is the time to enter this bad boy into a contest.

Some detail shots!

I believe the head design below actually was created by Gringat the Repugnant, but I am not for certain on that.

And now some views of his scythe.

Ka'arik's scythe is his most powerful weapon. Not only does he channel his powers of hunger and famine through it, but the serrated edge of the blade is capable of inflicting instant death to anyone that it strikes. However, because of this immense power, Ka'arik rarely uses the serrated edge of the scythe. Because he is tasked with rebuilding Makuta's army, he prefers to preserve as many potential prisoners as he can, so that he can later convert them into minions.

Ka'arik also has a few of Makuta's other powers, such as the power of shadow and the power of chain lightning. He does not possess all of Makuta's powers however, due to interference from his former species DNA still flowing through him.

His Kanohi Miru (shaped like a Miru Nuva) is actually usable. He does use it to hover around and gain the upper hand over grounded opponents.

He is very prone to intense headaches, which he blames the antidermis for.

And that's all. I hope you enjoyed the moc as much as I did creating it. I've been working on Ka'arik for a very long time, and I don't think this is a moc I could even comprehend dissassembling.

Comments and constructive criticism are encouraged!

Thanks for reading!

Ka'arik is well built and he captures the 'reaper' feel nicely. Good work. (All off a sudden I'm feeling hungry. Hmm...)

Thanks! I've been moccing seriously for at least...half a decade now, but I've played with LEGO my whole life. This is one of my oldest creations actually, but it gets so many updates that it's basically a new creation every time, and each update makes it so different from the last. He wasn't always a bad guy either.

Quoting [ Darker511 ] Well, since no one else has commented on this yet, I will! First, welcome to Mocpages! Second, constructive criticism. The red pin in the arms is weird, and if you have any black ones, you might want to switch it out. The gold in the legs doesn't go well with the rest of the color scheme, so there's that. The back could do with some color changes as well. Third, the head is from [ Chro ].
Thanks! I appreciate the comment. I thought for sure I saw the head from Gringat a couple years back...guess I was wrong. I would clean up the colors of the pins and liftarms, but I need to sort out my parts first. That's one of my issues, my parts aren't sorted. Same goes for the gold in the legs, those would have been red if I was able to find them. I don't exactly expect to win this contest, but I thought it was worth entering. Once again, thanks for commenting, and I hope you enjoyed the moc!
