Pillar of Autumn - Completed
POA completed after 3.5 years.
About this creation
The Pillar of Autumn at one of its two (and only two) presentations. It was shown at BW 2014 this June, and in Seattle at Brickcon 2014. It was rather fun in Seattle at its showing as several people that worked on the Halo project were in attendance, and made a point of coming over to say hi.

Thanks to Jesse Stipek from 343 Industries (Microsoft), the Pillar was published on the Halo Channel (Jan 16, 2015) as a picture montage to some lovely/soulful Haloesque music. Thanks for the plug Jesse - nice to be able to share the build with more people!

First I wanna say I love this MOC, it's so structurally perfect, the cureve, details and the engines are breathtakingly staggering. Secondly, I find the use of smooth tiles for a more professional finish, I was wondering if you'd possibly be able to help me with my phantom project,if anyone's willing to help go to my page and comment for my email so I can show you images on the current progress and so you can give advice and contribute ideas. All help will be commemorated on the MOC's uploads.

Long ship body with two huge dangling engines? Is someone overcompensating again? Jokes aside brother, this was a BEAST and I'm happy to know that it wasn't my assistance with the packing job that resulted in the damage ;). I blame Seattle... dirty Sterlings (hehe). So what's next then? ~ Chris.

Quoting Mark Kelso I've waxed poetic about this before, I know...but still. It'd be fun to set this up and photograph it with some direct lighting conditions, and then play around in photoshop to get this bad boy into space where he belongs! I'm probably biased, but still...one of your best, Lee!
The damage suffered in its last move would equal about 10-hours of repairs to take those photos. Sadly, I don't think it will happen :-(

Thanks for all the kind words - they are truly appreciated. The engines are also my favourite element of the build, and are extremely sturdy. It is the tightest ring I have ever made, and adds to its rigidity. However, there are structural elements inside the rings so they do not collapse under their weight. Unfortunately, the build suffered substantial damage on the way home from Seattle, and is slated for complete destruction. A new SHIP will rise in its place, but from a different universe than the Halo universe.

Wowza. I think you used every building technique. All of them. Engines are gorgeous. Just enough intricacy, pulled together with enoug consistent patterning to make greebling at such a large scale look awesome. I like how the mix of shades of grey on the hull gives it a real "shipyard" feel.
