Take a last look around while you're alive; he's an indestructable master of war! This is a revamp of Krode; Toa of Fire and a member of the Order of Mata Nui!
About this creation
“You might think that I’m cruel for doing this. I am cruel. Get over it.”
-Krode, The Contenders #1
Krode is a Toa of Fire, and a member of the Order of Mata Nui. He wears the Kanohi Hau, the Mask of Shielding, and he carries a shield, using his ability to create fire as his offensive weapon. Krode is also very skilled at hand-to-hand combat. While very hard hearted and capable of being very cruel, Krode can also be humorous and, although he'd never admit it, very kind and gentle to those he cares for.
Krode was a Ta-Matoran living on Spherus Magna, until he joined a faction named the Bearers of Justice (otherwise known as "Justicars") and was transformed into a Toa. He spent much of his early life with the Justicars, though left once his friend Askra was corrupted by the rogue Toa Kunar. Krode joined the Order of Mata Nui, and was assigned to the planet Racta Magna. Some point before leaving for the planet, Krode befriended a Steltian named Solorak, who was also a member. When he arrived, he became friends with Turaga Trokan and was assigned to watch the Gates of Racta Major, the main city of Racta Magna. Whilst there, he assisted the Toa Racta against the threat of Thanatos and his Cult.
Soon afterwards, Krode witnessed the death of Turaga Trokan and noticed that Solorak was sent by the Order to act as a temporary replacement. He accused Solorak and his superiors of being officious, and took further opportunity to criticize his friend when a poor decision resulted in the Makuta Sombrak occupying the city of Nolybas. When the Sombrak invaded the city, Krode remained behind the gates to act as a second line of defence. As Makuta Aroxion snuck into the city, Krode confronted the intruder, but was quickly incapacitated. When he awoke, the battle was over and the Sombrak had been defeated.
Three years later, Krode discovered that one Makuta of the Sombrak, Reshak, had survived. Upon hearing this information, Turaga Onika suggested the assembly of the Contenders, to go after the Makuta. While in Racta Major, waiting for the Contenders to return, Krode was attacked and used as hostage by the Ta-Matoran Ohyk, who branded himself "Doctor Forgen". Forgen was defeated and Krode was freed. He also helped to defeat Kunar, who had snuck into the city, and was later defeated by Dukrina, Apothrahk and Thisrahk, the children of Reshak, when they snuck into the city. Much later, Krode fought them again and would have won, if not for Solorak’s betrayal. The corruption of his friend deeply saddened Krode. He clashed with Solorak again soon afterwards as he helped Raxonax fight his nemesis Shadonax, and the Steltian had allied himself with the shadow creature. After Shadonax’s death, he helped to burn the body and helped Raxonax reclaim his status.
Krode assisted Galia when the villain Dread arrived at Racta Major, demanding them to hand over a guest, the Hero Mary Windbird. When they refused, Dread’s gang tried to take the hero by force. During this fight, Krode fought Dread head on, but was beaten; nevertheless, he singlehandedly managed to stop them taking Windbird. He then set out with Cliff Scaler, one of Windbird’s friends, to track down Dread; he left Clank to watch the door while he was gone. They did not encounter Dread, but instead fought another villain named Depravitie, who quickly defeated them. Krode managed to cheer up a despondent Scaler nonetheless. Krode returned home and reclaimed his position as Gatekeeper, only to relinquish it once again when he set out with the others to fight Dread’s gang one more time. This initially resulted in victory, but Windbird gave up her life to a dying Dread anyway, based on a personal guilt.
Time passed, and Krode persisted with his duty; for the most part the period was uneventful, with no reason for Krode to take up arms. However, this changed when both Shadonax and Aroxion were resurrected and attempted to attack the city; the Contenders, as the first line of defence, were defeated, leaving Krode and Clank to protect the city. They were quickly bested, and the city fell to hostile hands. Krode was chained up, left to hang high above the spot he originally guarded. It would be some time before he was taken down again, freed by Raxonax in a revolt. In the ensuing battle, Krode managed to severely damage Solorak’s face, though in the end he was defeated; Solorak locked him away in the inner complex along with the Contenders.
Krode remains a prisoner in the city’s inner complex.
