Here's a forklift whose fork actually lifts (using the winch with arrestor bar), the vertical frame can tilt forward to pick up stuff (you can lock it in the carrying position) and the rear axle steers.
About this creation
The first version proved the concept, but after loading it with two wheels the whole beast tilted over on its nose. So I crammed it with bricks and added "battery" as ballast and now it works much better. I came to think that it even looks better with the battery.
First I tried to use the standard steering assembly for the rear axle, but it looked rather bad, so I ended up with another trick that seems to work well. I added some movement restrictors to prevent wheels from scrapping against the body when turned.
It works reliably and seems quite sturdy, after I finished it my kids took it away and spend three days playing with it without any problem.
I really enjoyed making it. I never felt attracted to Technic, the models look too skeletal to me, but the combination of classical and technic bricks in 7347 was really inspiring. Incidentally, this is my very first Lego set (I grew up behind the Iron curtain). I wish I was a kid :-).
