MELO Round 2: P Andrei vs. Bane of Seaguls

About this creation

Orthanc Bracket: Category: Bifur

My entry for the second round of 2014-15 Middle Earth Lego Olympics

My opponent's page: Bane Of Seaguls

Well, this category was a serious mindrape, really wanted to build a scene around the fig, but there is none in the movie. This guy barely appears in the background for 2 minutes in the entire trilogy. And it's been too long since I've read the book to remember anything from that.

So I decided to make simple base for it, that turned out to be a serious exercise in patience. Everything there is connected aside from a few cheese slopes wedged in the gaps.

Simply amazing. You caught all the right features, and the knife looks so good, I just want to pull it out of it's hilt.

Quoting Graeme Straughn Going back though older entries, I realized how amazing your build is... Stellar brick-built 'fig and wow... that terrain texturing is amazing! Do you know of a tutorial or some where I could find how to do it too? Thanks, Andrei!
I've added a closeup of the base, it's quite simple to make, the parts are connected to the base with 1x2 and 2x2 jumper plates.

WELL. This has got to be the hardest one to judge yet. you two both did a fantastic job with the detail and ideas and techniques of the build. but I have to make a decision so I am voting for Bane of seagulls. The reason is that The Idea is more unique. I mean why the heck are they building a giant bust of the guy? But great job to both of you.

The figure looks great, and what he's standing on scales new heights of realism. Good luck!

Quoting Li Li Very nice figure, with lots of NPU and clever base. But in the end, I like your opponent's detailed bust a tiny bit more.
Quoting Michael Kringe Wow, this is probably the closest decision I have to make in this round. Both entries are excellent, but at the end your entry gets my vote. I really like how you added some unique building techniques and interesting bricks I wouldn't expect here, so that's why you get my vote.
Thanks, now I'm right at the edge of my seat. :)

So glad I don't have to judge this one! You and your opponent both brought forth complete masterpieces. I confess I'm honestly very disappointed that one of you has to go so soon. You've both set a beautifully high standard.
