MELO Round 2
About this creation
Hello there!

Here is my Round 2 entry to the 2014-2015 MELO

My bracket is the Orthanc Bracket.

My fantastical opponent is Joseph Olson. Good luck, man! :)

My category for Round 2 is Dori

So my original plan was Goblin Town, and then it came to Out of the Frying Pan Into the Fire. Both of these scenes Dori is most prominent for helping Bilbo when he falls behind. I chose the second option, when Dori helps Bilbo up the tree before the Wargs/Goblins can get to him. I took a few artistic liberties when building it, but I think it payed off despite the risks. They include including one of the great eagles, which while it wasn't in this exact part in the book, it ended up being the highlight of the build.

A note the judges:
I edited these pictures to throw in my name, because I thought it looked cool. Hope that's all right.

Anyway, onto the pictures! Enjoy!

The whole build.

Burning/fallen tree (luckily a dwarf-less tree. Apparently the Goblins aren't very good at determining which trees have dwarves and which don't).

The main tree, sorta the second highlight of the build. Man, I cannot count how many times this annoying thing exploded.

Rock view

The eagle. And I had thought that Smaug's Eye was hard to put together in my last entry!

The build eagle-less.

The eagle build-less.

Well, I hope you've enjoyed!

Good luck, Joseph! You'll probably move on. Good luck in future rounds if you do!

After a year's wait, the pictures from that one party you went to, finally arrived! Apparently the whole deal was held like a light-year or so away from Earth, so it could not have been done before... But it was fun at the celebration, right? http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/407296

Can you please judge Toa Gigavolt's BMC entry? It's the only one left before we can psot the results. Thanks.

It was a really close decision between your excellent trees and the eagle and Joseph's fantastic Gate of Erebor. At the end your opponent's build convinced me a bit more, so he gets my vote.

It's a close call. I think both of your landscapes are equally good, but I think your eagle is a bit too blocky. So your opponent gets my vote.

Staying true to your style of having a lot of small brown plates in a build, I see.

Quoting A M Nice one! The bigger tree is definitely a highlight (the leaves look awesome) and I love the burning one, too. The eagle was a risk and I think it paid off! Great build!

Quoting Joseph Olson Wow! Great job! I'm not really a fan of how the trees were made out of light grey (though the structure looks great!). The rockwork is awesome and the eagle looks great as well! It's neat to see some book interpretation, and that might win over some of the judges so... may the best dwarf win! :)
Thanks, haha. Yeah, I was thinking about making the trees brown, but when you actually think about it, trees are realistically closer to be being gray than brown in most cases. Thanks for the comment, good luck to you as well!
