IJN Takao
IJN Takao, thanks to Alex Penner for suggesting to me to build this, just about finished a few bits to do but not enough pieces left LOL,approx 6 weeks to build, virtually every day,17 feet long (680 studs) long got fed up counting but around that,i would say this is my best so far just because all the angles etc, great enjoyable build, maybe too many photos but theres that much to see, first time i have used technic pieces for masts funnels etc, starting to get a less blocky look to them,i did attempt the hull with tiles like a few of you build (MATT BACE)and a few others but i ended up going back to my usual way, cant seem to get the hang of it,anyway building this researching google etc,i found a lesser ship which although not famous was on the top of the list as targets to be destroyed even more important than the Yamato(i will build that one day)the repair ship IJN Akashi, maybe try that or the Saratoga next, but need to gather up more pieces agan, hope you like it,by the way Henrik i added 8 studs to the space for the boats as it was a little cramped as you noted, thanks for looking

Quoting Mark B. Wow! Very impressive model. The bridge looks particularly good (I know its plastic, but for some reason, it really looks armored to me). I love all of the detail on the deck and those merged, raked funnels.
thanks again this has to be one of my most challenging builds with the angles and curves of the superstructure are not so easy in lego, then all the add ons that the IJNavy like to cram as much firepower on their ships,i do like how it turned out esp the funnels,my planes have improved somewhat which i owe to Henrik Jensen (pure class builder)whenever i build a ship it usually always is the one with the most guns, armour etc

I'm very impressed. Another great ship to add to your already massive fleet. I've always been more of a fan of the U.S. Navy warships but the Japanese cruiser designs were always interesting to me. Excellent job. Please keep up the good work as you continue to amaze.

thanks for all your comments, this was a great ship to build and great way of learning a way of building those weird angles, although i wish LEGO would introduce a railing of some sort rather than having to resort to twine and cutting antennas to make them, the hull, sperstructure or anything from 1x2 to 2x4(brick,plates) is MB,keeps the cost down, all the rest in LEGO and LEGO TECHNIC,but i have to say being on here, closely examining your models and how you have put them together, then using your techniques as a way of improving my builds, since Henrik came on here my planes have started to look like planes,LOL.so thanks to you all my building has improved to what it was,now its a case of gathering more pieces up for the next one,ANY SUGGESTIONS WELCOME,

I think there are many who envy you your giant builds. A LEGO warship of more than 5 meters, is something many only dream of. At the same time, I am quite impressed with how quickly you've built this warship. This is despite the many arkward sloping sides, the tricky curved funnel, and the myriad of other details. I see that you have increased the space on fligthdeck and it obviously gave a little more air :-) to the aircrafts. Truly a unique model, brilliantly executed!

After a long experience in the construction of many of the giant war ships models .... I see high accuracy in getting the exact details of the model, as well as the high professionalism in the design ... Unmatched by any other professional in this field ... I am really impressed .....as always

Once again you do not fail to impress, amazing work, the job you did on the funnels is excellent and the ship is a beauty. It is great you followed the advice and built this, because it trully is something special in terms of design compared to other contemporary cruisers.

Wow! That was completed in record time. What a great addition to your fleet -- probably the best heavy cruiser class of the war (at least as built -- the upgraded Mogamis might be considered better). There are so many fantastic and unique features on this one, including the deck and the merged funnel. Another absolutely top-notch effort.
