"For the Medium Density Fiberboards!" Wolf Bracket - Stonework - Unseen Predator. For Sozo fans, this MOC holds the answer to Sozo's undying questions...
About this creation
The Tourney 2015
The Lands of Mythron
Outlaws

Category description-
This town is riddled with tunnels: dungeons deep, caverns old, sewers, buried buildings, labyrinths and especially the infamous mines - perfect settings for challenges or other shady shenanigans. Build part of a tunnel (including at least one partially caved-in section) and either pick of a wave of hostiles or evade and defeat a powerful denizen. This category is judged on your ability to create rough masonry, including masonry that has already fallen apart - other stonework is secondary and not required.

I walk slowly, feeling my way along the tunnel walls. I should have stolen a torch when I snuck in. The path behind me is now veiled in darkness, but ahead a dim light grows larger with each step. I know I'm close when I hear the heavy breaths. Then I hear the harsh, rumbling voice, "Show yourself, trespasser. Who dares to enter my presence?"
Most people are not in any hurry to face certain doom, but I charge forward. I emerge from the tunnel into a large cavern lit by a hole in the roof.

"Zannok..." I start to yell, but my thoughts scatter at the sight of the dragon. He stands upright before me, taller than a two story building and with eyes of fire. I gulp down my fear and try to sound confident, "...you fowl beast! I demand an audience!"
He laughs. Mockingly, he says, "You think you can demand anything of me? I smell a village missing its idiot. I am Zannok, dragon of nightmares! I am the sting of night and the storm before dawn!"

I ignore his boasts and ask, "You mean to say that you don't remember me?"
He sniffs the air and leans a tad closer. The smirk of a dragon is most unsettling to witness. He speaks again, as condescending as possible, "Ah, yes. Ort Sirisen of Taddren, the city I destroyed. The Outlaw who stole your name was twice the man you are. So, the exile has returned home under the guise of a tourney contestant. Is that it? Let me guess, you wish to clear your name. How brave."

He had read me like a book, and that infuriates me. I shout, " You are going to provide me access to the Trado clan chief."
"No, I think it's time you burn."
"I know your secret!" I yell louder and my voice echoes off the stones. "I know why you hide in these tunnels. I was there when you spoke to a stronger dragon, Lokxayrrin, the day of the Taddren battle...."
"NOT POSSIBLE!!!" Zannok's claws curl into fists and flames erupt from his mouth.

The blast had been intentionally misdirected, though I felt the sting of its heat. The dragon recoiled and hissed, "Why should I not kill you now?"
"I left a package with my servant, to be opened if I do not return. It details how to give your whereabouts to Lokxayrrin The Immortal Plague. He still hunts you after all."
Zannok hesitates, no doubt testing the truth of my words, and then asks, "How much do you know?"

"I know you are a shamed dragon," I begin, "considered a coward by your kin because the legendary Philip Honorable drove you from you lair..."
"That is a lie. His name was Philip Carlson and I gave him my lair in Bodus. I would have received score greater still if Lokxayrrin found out. He propagated the legend in the first place."

A dragon befriending a mortal? Indeed, this would be worse than cowardice in the eyes of dragons. However, it makes sense of the rest of the story as I continue, "So, you go to Enalica and help the Barons rise to dominance. When an opportunity arises to take a city in Lokxayrrin's sphere of influence, Taddren, you see it as a way to get revenge and regain respect. You underestimated the lengths your rival would go to in order to get even though."
"We dragons do not control kingdoms, we merely influence the outcomes of their decisions. Mythron deserves credit before the Plague as he calls himself."

"You claim to be master of the dark, and you are humiliated in a battle at night." I conclude, "Your kingdom is destroyed in the Battle of Blood Bay, and you are forced to flee here, to Rainos."
The cave shook at Zannok's growl of rage. He rose to full height and spread his golden wings, "I will rise supreme among dragons. I will not lose again!"

He looked me in the eye and hissed, "I will do what you have requested, but be warned! It will cost you your life. On a night when the darkness is complete, when no star twinkles in the sky, then my fire will devour your flesh and bone."
"I have no doubt," I say, feigning sarcasm. "Two days from now at the start of the third joust, make sure the guards at the chieftain's office are gone and that the doors are open."
"Get out!" Zannok commands and points to the tunnel from which I came.

I'm on my way out at once, until a exquisite breastplate catches my eye. I turn back to ask, "You wouldn't mind if I took this with me?"

The Dragon
I've been dreaming of building this dragon since before the Tourney began, so, when I saw the category for this round, I was thrilled! Certainly a dragon fits the "powerful cave dweller" description. I wanted this dragon to rival the best.

The Set
This is probably the most part-consuming MOC I've ever uploaded, and I think it's one of my best (if not the best). It's 32X32 and about 32 high. The dragon required more space than I expected! I gave this build my all, we'll see if that was enough.

The boulder wall, aka all of my grey slopes.

The ruin. Normally I'm not a fan of this style of stonework, but I thought I should give it a try. It came out better than I thought.

Another shot of the full scene. Here we can see the support that helps hold up the ruin and the cavern ceiling.

Please comment and rate, I appreciate the support, and wish me luck!

Such a cool build. It has so many features; but I agree about the lack of composition. But it's just so cool!

Okay, I'll try to give my thoughts, although I'm rushed right now so sorry if it seems overly negative. P Andrei has some excellent ornate stonework - the pattern with the circles on the wall (studs alternating with round tiles) really stood out to me, and there were some other good bits, like the crosses on the walls. The rest of the build was well executed with excellent colors, and very ornate furniture. Joseph's had some fairly high quality and well-executed stonework (if not quite as well done as some of the other entries) and an interesting layout with the angling. It could have used refinement, but it had a good amount of detail for its size and the texturing was pretty well done overall. You have an amazing dragon, but the colors of the build were just a bit too randomly placed (it's overwhelming trying to look at it) and the textures on the left wall, while a good try, were too random. Meanwhile, the right wall, which was the part that needed texture since it was caved in and thus should be dilapidated, was untextured. Hope this makes sense, and sorry if it seems overly negative, since I had to write this in a hurry. Nice entry :)

Quoting Fraser Robinson The dragon is amazing, the way that you did the belly is particularly interesting. I kind of feel like you tried to do a little too much in too small of a space here and I think that a simpler cleaner base may have shown off the dragon better, but the rockwork is still great. Overall, well done.
Why didn't I move on? What made Joseph Olson score higher, or P. Andrei who didn't even have any stonework? I truly don't understand.

Quoting Benjamin Olson Oh my godness! That is really cool! I can't wait to see what happens next. really good build as well.
Thank you Ben! Unfortunately, I was kicked out of the tourney. I don't think the judges were fair at all.

Quoting Reese Hawthorne Pretty nice! The dragon's wings are just awesome! However, I feel that the scene is too busy. It's a little confusing to see what exactly is happening in each picture. Good luck, though!

Thank you, Thomas, that was one of the key details I wanted the dragon to have.

Quoting Kermunklin the Giant Evil House Head Woah! Cool dragon. And it certainly looks as though that wall is going to come crashing down on him. I already made up my own story for it...it's a dance-off, clearly!
Haha! The real story is just a tiny bit different. Thanks for stopping in!

Quoting Infernum Mythron-Bane The dragon is great! Is it posable? Not so sure about the colors or landscape... And why is one half of the wall (?) so different than the other half?
Thanks! Yes, he is, (Did you see the story shots?) although fragile. Because one half is the ruin.

Quoting Halhi 141 Dragon is amazing! I love the angles in the stonework, but I feel like the colors are a bit messy and it could use more texture (something that's collapsing this much would be worn down). Good luck!
Thanks for the feedback, Halhi. I'm not sure what you mean by "messy colors" though, could you explain that?
