Cyber Slums
About this creation

Welcome to the cyber slums, a ramshackle, eclectic collection of organized chaos, computers and spare parts.

This is one of my largest builds to date, but also one of the most fun! It allowed me the freedom to try out many different textures and techniques that wouldn't have been complimentary in any other build. All of the buildings have full interiors, but I wasn't able to get good lighting to take pictures of the insides, so you'll just have to take my word for it :P

This is more than perfect!!! Thank you for the many pics, there are sadly little pics in other big creations. I like your building structure, mostly the roofs! Now the creation only need some Minifigs to fresh the scene!

A brilliant and complex build, well photographed too. I like details such as the trousers hanging on the washing line. The overall feel of this MOC reminds me of the Sprawl books of William Gibson.

Splendid work! All the different textures are incredible, that roof over the structure on the far right is ingenious! I really like all the details you've put into it! Though it has a very rundown look, it looks rather nice :P Well done!

Quoting David FNJ This is marvelous! Incredible detailing! I like how you used yellowed white to get that weathered look. So many awesome techniques as well!
Thanks David! I used to think that all of my old white was useless, but I guess it just needs to be put in it's proper place and a whole host of possibilities open up.

Quoting Kai Bernstein Love it. But no cyber slum-figs?
Quoting Justin L. Fantastic build. I love the crowded look and all the details crammed in everywhere. Needs a couple more figs though.
Haha, yeah, not a lot of cyber slum-figs. There's one on the walkway and there's actually 4 others indoors, but they're impossible to see with any of the shots I posted. I found that I didn't have a lot of minifigures that fit the theme well, so ended up just placing one outside. Glad that you liked it though!

Quoting A M Absolutely awesome! The chaos and ramshackleness are perfectly achieved. The size, too, is very impressive. Too bad about the interior photos :( If you don't mind me asking, how did you do the lighting and set-up for the exterior ones?
Many thanks AM! Capturing a ramshackle look can be more difficult than it first appears, but is lots of fun to do. For my pictures I bought a lightbox off of amazon along with three white (5000K) lights to go along with it. The lightbox and lights cost around $120, but have definitely been worth it. I then use posterboards for the background inside the lightbox (usually white or black) and proceed to edit the final images in GIMP. https://www.flickr.com/photos/112058573@N02/14139736439/ The above picture sould give you a decent idea of my setup. Cheers

Quoting Tirrell Brown Wonderful job. So many things to like-the old tires in the corner, the shacks, busted roofs. Overall it captures the run down look well.
Trying to authentically capture a run-down look was what I was going for - thanks for noticing all the little details!

Quoting Drew Johnson How did you edit the last picture? In any case, nice build!
Thanks! To edit the last picture I cropped out the background (which was white) using GIMP and then placed the replacement background (the clouds) behind it.

Quoting gene 3S This moc is attractive and inspirational! There're so many cool building techniques being introduce as unconventional ways. I'm guessing this is endless.
Glad that you like it! There really does seem to be an endless number of ways that lego can be connected, which is part of what makes it so fun :)

Quoting Julia LeeP The detailing here is stunning. I think this might have looked better with an irg. base, but even so, this is an excellent build.
Thanks! I wanted to keep the base more rectangular to help reinforce a mecahnical/industrial feel, but an irregular base would have worked as well :)
