15 Piece Vehicle Challenge - Classic Space LL918
My official 15 piece vehicle challenge entry. Please rate and comment! Cheers!
About this creation

Here is my official entry to the 15 piece vehicle challenge. I re-created one of the most iconic small sets of the original Classic Space Era, the One-man Transport ship LL918. This set was originally released in 1979 as an 86 piece set and it made great use of every part, leaving you with a good sized swooshable ship. I recently acquired one for a fair price and it has been on display ever since. Thanks to Sam the First I now had a great reason to miniaturize one of my favorite sets! I was a little apprehensive about entering this contest so quickly, but I am very pleased with my final result after making modifications and testing different parts out all day.

I want to thank the community here for inspiring me to join MOCpages. If it wasn't for the Classic Space Pocket Money Challenge 3, i wouldn't have joined Mocpages in November last year. It was an honor to enter my Classic Space Mech next to such great builders as Stephan N , Gene 3S and Pico Van Grootveld. Once again it is an honor to be in this contest with everyone who enters, good luck to everyone! I hope you enjoy!

What's that off in the distance? Another ship is racing towards us! Its the official LL918!

Here is the official parts list for the ship, it took a while to make it at a solid 15, taking parts out is hard!

Quoting Pico van Grootveld Thanks for bringing this to my attention, it's a wonderful SNOT mini version of an iconic CS build. Job well done I'd say and certainly a possible winner. The credits posted are well deserved. I mostly like the idea of a fleet of these shippies. Can't wait for a pic of that! Nice editing work as well
Thanks for checking my build our Pico, it's much appreciated. A fleet would be killer looking, just got Lego 497 in the mail and built it the other day, my head is spinning in micro-scale right now! Hahah

Quoting Sam Sanister You did a fabulous job of recreating the LL918 not just in microscale, but with 15 pieces as well!
Thank you Sam! It was good timing when this contest came up, I had been recently pondering building some of the classic space ships in micro-scale, this one came out great! Looks like I'll have to work on a new one!
Quoting Nils O. Very cool, it's instantly recognizable! Great job - And good luck for the contest! :-))
thanks Nils! I'm glad you like it!
Quoting sinan bitiþik Very nice..
I appreciate the comment sinan!
Quoting Joshua Christenson Nice! For whatever reason, I really like the look of older sets more than I do of newer sets. Unfortunately, I don't have too many of them... Anyway, great mini build!
Thanks Joshua, I agree, the classic sets just have an incredible look to them. The only other space sets I got into are Star Wars for obvious reasons, and Galaxy squad. I think it is the modularity of the GS sets that remind me of the old times!
Quoting brick car Super!Very recognisable and unique entry . 5/5
Thank-you Brick Car!

Thank you so much stuart. I went through a couple options for attaching the tail wing, but when i realized how well these two parts fit together i was very pleased.

Thank-you so much Matt! Your build is insanely impressive, out of the gate everyone has something to strive for already, looking forward to a strong 2015 for you! Yes, keeping the navigation lights was a necessity for me. Those trans red and green lights just scream classic space! I'm just glad that ship didn't have any yellow and black pin-striping! Haha

Thank-you so much nick, you are an automobile magician, so im super excited to see what you create this year! With so few pieces, I didn't think i could pull this entry off in a classy manner, im real happy with the result. Anyone say classic space advent calendar? I'd buy 10!
Quoting Oran Cruzen Great work of Lego "Space" creationism!
Thank-you Oran, I'm a classic space junkie through and through! haha
Quoting Richard Snape Just imagine a fleet of these on an immense flagship, some food for thought for you there Damon lol.
Tell me about it Richard, you got my mind running laps! MORE 1x3 old school light grey slopes! i had to dig through my collection for a while to find the back portion slopes, i have so few for some reason.
Quoting Clayton Marchetti That's so awesome! Looks just like the classic ship! Best of luck to you in the contest!
Thank-you Clayton, i can't wait to see your entry this year!

Quoting Yann (XY EZ) This is fantastic! The pictures are phenomenal and the whole idea of minisizing an existent creation is superb. Well done!
Thank-you so much Yann!! Originally I was trying to brainstorm on an interesting wheeled vehicle, using a unique piece for wheels in particular, but as my original 918 model sat and stared at me at my workstation, I quickly realized what needed to be done, so I set to work.
Quoting Henrik Jensen Excellent entry to the challenge! Brilliantly shaped, and great use of the SNOT -technic.
thank-you henrik, the snot connections are my favorite by far, I was pleasantly pleased with my rear wing connection as well, it fit a lot more sung than I expected and gives the proper shape of the original model.
Quoting TheGarageBoy (Mitchell Smith) Wow.. That's impressive! For a model with a small part usage limit, you've managed to pull this off! I wish you the best of luck.
Cheers GarageBoy! You have some awesome 4-wides, I hope you plan on entering the contest, i am excited to see what you can create!
Quoting Starscream Soundwave Brilliant stuff!
thank-you starscream!
Quoting Marc dZ Excellent mini-work. Everything is there. Great!!
Thanks Marc! I really wanted this to be instantly recognizable, I tried a few different option for the wings/main body, but the 1x3 slope was the ticket!

Quoting LegoPredator ! Great work with 15 pieces! It´s very cool!
Thanks predator! It was real tricky to get it down from 17 parts, once i made the hurdle eliminating the 17th, the 16th i had to test multiple options to make the right adjustments. This was a super fun challenge.
Quoting David Roberts Very neat. I like the wings.
This means alot coming from you Mr. Roberts! If it wasn't for your most recent pocket money challenge, i wouldn't have signed up for Mocpages! Cheers!

Quoting Commander Bricks Great now I have to throw away my design it was just like this but without the SNOT to make it more like the original.
Oh no! I'm sorry commander bricks! As i was building and trying to decide if i wanted to take the photos and post my entry so quickly i decided i should in case someone else gets the idea to follow suit. oops! I would love to see your version if you ever get around to posting it, seeing studs would be more authentic.
