2014 - Year of my trial TATRAs
Brief summary of my First truck trial year. All models I have built for that occasion
About this creation
after nearly half of year without submitting here, I will show you what I did, the reason for that.
(I was building TATRAs!)

2014 was, for me, the first year with local Truck Trial competition, czech LTTT ( ). It was not successful for me, but it was great fun, and I gained much experience from four races I joined.

For race in June, for me the very first in my life, I built a very heavy T815.

it was, literaly, a failure. Heavy cabin and high centre of gravity caused very often HOG recovery action - that means disqualification in current section of the race.
On the other hand, it featured very special controller, combination of cable and IR. (BB was in the controller pistol, connected with IR reciever in the truck).

(more photos: here )

After leaving the unusual setup of the controller, buying old BBs to make full cable-controlled light weight 5292-powered truck, I made another 815, now with lockable differentials for each axle.

815 V2 test

it was Connector killer. Four of them cracked only while testing the basic apabilities, so this truck was disassembled after one weekend.

More photos are also in my photostream on flickr.

Later, for August's race I tried to build something better. It was also TATRA, T815 TP with dual front steered axles.

It was not bad offroader, when the terrain contained grass, grit, rocks or earth. Section two of the race had changed into horror, when the truck got stuck in the muddy hole. The portal wheel HUB had malfunction baceuse some little grains of dirt got between the LBG and DBG rotating part in it, and I was then, after giving up the race, unable to disassemble that part in the nature.

The famous moment when I got stuck.

Then I realised, that using differential in axles don't improve performance enough. It made miracles with turning radius, but increased the weight.
The solution of that problem had to be T815TP V2.

T815 TP V2

It wasn't. Turning radius was even worse, or at least the same as had it's predecessor. However, I have used only one diff between front and rear axles. That was not bad, this setup used most of builders I competed with. I also invented, that the 5x7 frame is nearly perfect cage for perpendicular gears in Tatra's suspension setup.

This directly led to my last truck, the T148. It had central diff with lock, two 5292s for propulsion, and approx. 1700g to ride with. However, with this weiht it had been my best TT so far, so it was used in two last races (sixth and seventh).

So, this is my 2014 LTTT story. Hope you enjoyed reading.
Next LTTT championship will come in 2016. Stay tuned. :)

May the bricks be with you.
