About this creation
Hello! Here is my entry for Round 5 of MELO!
My worthy opponent for this round is Graham, can't wait to see what he builds!

I began with this round thinking I would do the scene from the third Hobbit movie depicting the White Council battling Sauron and his Wringwraiths, but that just didn't work out. I decided to go on a route that I doubted anyone else would take, the First Age. In the First Age of Middle Earth, or the Elder Days, Sauron was not the Dark Lord. He was lieutenant to Morgoth the Vala. Sauron himself was only a Maia of Aulë but sided with Morgoth. His name means The Abhorred, in Sindarin his name was Gorthaur.

He occupied Minas Tirith which was built on Tol Sirion, an island in the river in the Pass of Sirion, built by Finrod. Later it was named Tol-in-Gaurhoth, Isle of Werewolves. For he himself often took form as a great wolf, and had many wolves with him.

The scene depicted below is one of my favorite parts of the story of Beren and Lúthien, where Haun and Lúthien come to Sauron's domain to free Beren from his dungeons. Sauron sent out many wolves to defeat Haun, but Haun was of Valinor and he slew them all. Then Sauron, knowing that it was Haun who stood upon his bridge, took the form of a great werewolf in an attempt to win the passage of the bridge. So great was the horror of his approach that Haun leaped aside and Sauron sprang at Lúthien, but part of her cloak that she had fashioned touched him and a great drowsiness was cast upon him. Then befell the battle of Haun of Valinor and Wolf-Sauron, in the end Haun was victorious. Then Sauron shifted shape from wolf to serpent to monster and to his accustomed form but he could not escape the grip of Haun. Sauron then gave Lúthien the command over his tower and she cast it down, rescuing Beren.

Long I know, but it was mainly for the judges just in case they don't know the story. On to the build!

I really like the way this turned out, especially for only working on it for about 5 days! (The other 5 were spent in finding out that I needed to switch my idea) Thanks for viewing! Good Luck Graham! Flickr account

Man, what can I say.... The bridge is outstanding! Textures, overgrown feel (the vines throughout are perfect), everything. The only thing is that it looks a bit like Dol-guldur. Other than that, wow. You are quickly becoming the next master of the bricks.

I liked this 10x more after realizing it was from the Silmarillion. I liked the entire Beren/Luthien story (including this section) a lot. Nice job recreating this scene.

That bridge is just drop-dead gorgeous. Masterfully done Dune! Love all those vines (can I have some?). Excellent work on the entrance too. The rocks seem a little too curved for my liking and the top of the entrance seems a little odd, but the rest is just so awesome. Best of luck in Round 6!

Light gray bits of the rocks look too bright and unnatural. Dark tan could work, or monochrome dark gray.

I like that you added water, it makes sense with Tol-in-Gaurhoth being an Island, but I'm just not a big fan of loose pieces lying around. I personally prefer water tha is attached to the build.

Quoting Tureaglin Naugellon A silmarillion moc! Stunning build all around, I love the texturing. The water is the only thing I don't really like. One of your best mocs yet!
Thanks! I know what you mean about the water, I was trying to bring some more color into the creation, without it it was too monochromatic.
